What interface are you looking for? (Expresscard, USB). Also, do you want hardware encoding, or are you OK with software?

Most TV tuners right now do support ATSC (DTV), and usually the ones that don't have a note saying so. And remember, you'll only be able to get 1920x1080 if you can catch an over the air signal that's transmitting HD.

is software encoding bad?? or would i be better off with hardware?
i dont have a preference over expresscard or usb either works

so if there arent HD channels it would look bad on a 24inch widescreen?

shadman1, check out the usb AverTV Hybrid Volar Max. It works great on my wide screen laptop. It does have Pal settings. The picture is great on my laptop. I'm not sure how it will look on your big monitor, but my guess is it would be fine. I bought mine at newegg.com for $80.00 (including shipping), but you can probably get it for less there now. If you've never ordered from newegg before, it's an excellent site for products. I'm glad I bought this. You can use it easily on your desktop too. It works in Windows Media Center or it's own software, which I like and use.

In my opinion, after doing extensive research on both brands, and the other top brands, I think the AverMedia product is a little better. Now, that will be highly debatable with people who use and are happy with the product they have. This is just my opinion after research, keeping in mind what I personally wanted out of a TV tuner. But I did come to a pretty solid opinion during my research that AverMedia and Hauppauge are the very top brands and either one would be great. If you consider either one, you might want to do a comparison on both of them and maybe read the customer feedback on them at newegg.com. Hope this helps.

AutumnWave OnAir GT is the best. It supports clearQAM and ATSC.

If you use the media center software that comes wit it, which I prefer, an auto-hide small menu bar shows up at the bottom of the screen when you move your mouse. It has up/down arrows you can click on to change channels with your mouse. This menu also has recording buttons (even timeshift), snapshot, aspect ratio, mute, volume up/down, and audio mode. The menu goes away after a couple seconds of idle mouse. If you use Microsoft media center, I'm sure it has a mouse menu also. One of the many things I like about the Volar Max is I can make the picture small and watch TV while doing other things on the laptop. Yes, you can buy their remote but I don't know the price but it's probably under $50. For awhile I used the small remote that came with my HP, which you can get for about $20, but you don't need one at all as long as you are near the laptop. I would think any Microsoft remote that works with media center would work with this and you can get them for well under $50. I just googled it and found one for $35.
