You need a usb tv tuner. I have the ATI TV Wonder USB 2.0 that my girlfriend got me for christmas. ( http://www.ati.com/products/tvwonderusb20/index.html)
You can watch tv, and record your shows onto your hard drive then burn them onto dvd. It only cost $99 at Bestbuy.

You could look at Slingbox, for $200 you could watch television anywhere you can get online. I posted a review a few weeks back if you want to read up for more details.

I was looking at these. How is the quality of the video? If you record a show and play it back is like watching the original?

If I remember correctly, the Slingbox is ~$250 (btw, did you try www.slingbox.com as a url?). The nice thing about it is that it's a hardware solution that can also control an external cable/sat box. If you have a PC / Laptop with a TV tuner card that you're willing to leave on, you can do something similar with Orb.com, and it's free. They're slightly different solutions, but the tuner/Orb would be about $150 cheaper.
