OK, I'm trying to watch t.v on my laptop and I've been looking around. So how can you watch t.v on your laptop. I googled and found something called a tv tuner. How does that work? Whats the differences between the usb and cards?
Is satellite t.v software real? ugh I'm so confused.

A TV tuner basically adds a coaxial input to your laptop, allowing you to watch TV with an antenna, cable, or satellite.

well I'm only thinking about cable and satellite or over internet. My local channels suck so I'm not worried about the analog. Can you please explain to me the between the usb and the card ones and what method of input is used.
Also does anyone know about satellite t.v software? Scam or real?
    Thanx

If your local channels sucks, so why you need TV tuner card ?

If you want to watch some free online TV channels, just google for free online channels or stream, or check free software like sopcast.

    Download sopcast from here: http://www.sopcast.com/download/

Well I'm probably going to connect it to the cable, I'm not going to use analog. The reason being is that I'm living in a dorm so I can't really get a TV.

AverMedia makes some very good products for that, in USB and ExpressCard.

Both USB and ExpressCard versions have pretty much the same functions, the ExpressCard will fit nicely into the laptop for on the go. Check out this guide/review, click on the name of the products to see the pros and cons. The ExpressCard isn't on it yet since I believe it was released afterward.

I have both the AverTV Expresscard and the Hauppauge WinTV USB2 external TV Tuner. I highly recommend going with WinTV. I have hooked up both to my set-top box and WinTV had much better playback quality.

WinTV can be found at Hauppauge.com
