    I am looking for a TV tuner. to watch and record some soccer games and movies.
    Any suggestions on brands and places to look for.
    Also would like to know what are the specifics that are the most important in choosing these devices ?

    The best software for tv recording is snapstream's beyond tv 3 at http://www.snapstream.com I would reccommend ATI's usb 2.0 TV wonder pro. I have an Asus tv-FM card, but the color is very bad.

    GPU cooling (100°C->75°C)* Inspiron 8600 * 1.8ghz Pentium M * 128 MB Radeon 9600 Pro Turbo (337/242 -> 400/300) * 2x256 MB DDR2700 SDRAM * Aquamark 3: 24058 * 3DMark'03: 3404 * 3DMark'01 SE: 13120

    my laptop is gonna come with the ATI m11 gpu. I am confused if I need to buy a seperate TV tuner or the ATI gpu has a socket for the cable from the TV and all I need is some software to do the encoding etc..

    I saw the following
    USB GAINWARD Hollywood@Home TV2Go TVR Tuner

    you need a usb adapter for the tv input. most laptops don't have a tv tuner option for built in, in fact the only ones i have looked at with them built in are the Sagers.

    zx5000 :: 2.4M :: 512 DDR :: 40gb 4200 RPM HD :: 15.4" :: Radeon 9600 Mobilty M10 :: Aquamark3 22,856

    ya, hauppage is really good. Download a trial of snapstream when you get your tuner. It has a built in guide, video compressor, PVR, and live tv viewing.

    I have narrowed down between the Hauppage and the Gainward
    Gainward is abt 10-15 bucks costlier.

    I saw this in the System requirements for the Hauppage:

    USB port - 1.1 or 2.0 (performance is the same on either USB 1.1 or 2.0)

    I was wondering if this is true. Cos if I want to record movies, I was thinking USB2.0 is a must as its much much faster than USB1.1
    I was of the assumption that the quality of recording is gonna be diff with 1.1 and 2.0
    Any thoughts on this ?

    Any final suggestions ?

    ATI is supposed to be coming out with an external adapter, TV Wonder USB 2.0 http://www.ati.com/products/tvwonderusb20/index.html. The aesthetics are a little bit more pleasing than similar products. It also should have composite inputs to make it easy to grab video from sources like DVD/VCR, console, or camcorder. It'll be 'shipping soon' and I really hope this isn't vaporware.
