I am looking for a TV tuner and remote control for a laptop. It can be either a USB or PC card. I would a prefer a single device.

I have a 7 yr old PIII 866MHz with an ATI All in Wonder 128 video card. It plays TV cleanly. On the new Dell with a CoreDuo 2GHz that I returned, TV was jerky and the audio and video were not sync'ed. It was like watching a Bruce Lee movie. I would a new laptop to be able to perform at least as good as my VERY OLD desktop.

I know very little about the options and configurations available.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

I've had my Hauppauge USB2 PVR for over a year now, and aside from some USB problems early on have been pleased. It compresses to MPEG2 in hardware, so almost no CPU load and the saved files are smaller and DVD ready. Circuit City recently had them for ~ $100 after rebate.

PS- Being a hardware encoder, there is a 2 second lag, so game console use is probably out.

1- Does anyone have experience with the Express Cardbus TV Tuners?

2- How do they compare to USB tuners?

3- For the Express Card turners, any ideas on how the HP Express Card TV Tuner compares to the AVerMedia unit?

4- For the AVerMedia, what is the difference between these two?
    AverTV Cardbus Plus
    AVerTV Hybrid+FM Cardbus
It seems as if they both have remote controls and both have FM radio tuners.
