Hi. A friend told me that a problem inherent to any TV tuner is that the picture shows up better on LCD monitors than it does on TVs, so all of the imperfections (e.g. snow) show up, making the picture look like s__t. Is that correct?
My girlfriend asked me to help her find a TV tuner, and she's computorily challenged, so, if there are some decent ones, I need to find her a USB model as close to $70 as possible (without any separate sound signals).
Thanks,
Howie

well, standard definition TV quality is low resolution compared to the average laptop screen, so you either have a small window or the usual upsizing artifacts. Obviously it is viewing distance dependant - SD TV looks like crap if viewed from 18-24 inches away as you usually do a laptop screen

I have a Hauppauge PVR USB2 and find the picture pretty acceptable. The fact that it records compressed video to my HD is icing on the cake. Picture Quality depends a lot on the application used to display it, but my TV card looks as good as a DVD on this laptop.
