Okay I am a total newbie at the notebook business.

I purchased an HP business line 14.1 notebook a while back and it has run fine but I've noticed the desk seems a little warm during long uses so I now have the Targus Chill Hub w/4 USB 2.0 ports.

Now I've been told to leave the laptop on at all times except during travel or bad weather. So do I leave the chill hub on too or do I need to shut it off?

    Thanks for the help!

I basically never shut down my notebook, and I just turn my Chill pad off at night/ when I am not at it. I only have it on when I am at it doing something.

Yeah I leave my cooler running whenever my laptop is at my desk. I don't bother to take it to school or to use it on my lap when I am sitting on the couch.

I have a cooler as well.
In my opinion, you only need to use the cooling pad when you are using your laptop for long periods of time such as desk work or when you put it on a soft surface like a couch or bed(these surfaces usually block airflow causing excessive heat buildup....the cooler helps to keep the airflow under the laptop which will decrease your chances of having you laptop running at higher than comfortable temperatures.
