Hey guys, been happy with my brand new laptop
Sony VGN-FZ290
2.4Ghz Centrino Duo Core
200GB 7200RPM HDD
nVidia 8400M GT 256MB DDR3
2GB RAM
Anyways, i was thinking of overclocking my laptop and i bought this new Targus Chill Mat (not the tornado one). It's new and improved and has 25% more cooling but i feel it has no effect on my average computer temperatures... -.-. I use CPUID Hardware Monitor to monitor my computers temperatures and it doesnt seem that different without the cooling pad. I want to get in overclocking my card but i dont want to do it unless my chillpad is taking effect. My notebook is 15.4" and i doubt its too big for the pad. I can feel cold air but the temps are still 50~ degrees when browsing the net...not much difference when im playing games too. I get about 65 degrees (not on max)

What material is the cooler made of (or what part that your notebook is sitting on)?
Is your notebook elevated (space beneath it)? -

I think it depends a lot on the placement of the fans in your laptop. Where are they exactly located?
-
the best choice would be a cooler that cools the entire stage...
- Zalman ZM-NC1000
- Cooler Master Infinite -
Ok, way to many questions. So:
There is a small gap between the chill pad and my notebook. (the grip)
i have like 5 air vents located at the bottom of my laptop and i think only 1 maybe is getting affected by the cold air.
I can feel the cold air when i put my hand close to the opening so i think air is flowing somewhat underneath.
Is there a better temp monitor that tells u the systems avg temp? -
Someone help? i need answers before i decide to return it =\

i have the same cooler, and it has made no difference. It does elevate the notebook wich helps to cool it, and I only paid 20 bucks for it. I decided to keep it, to elevate but the cooling is useless. also, it is very loud. Hope that helps.

Will it somewhat reduce the overall temperature?
-
Download Hwmonitor here to see the current and peak temps of the ACPI, CPU cores, HDD and GPU card.
I suggest finding the hotspots in your computer and find a cooler that will suit the fan placement accordingly.
The zalman nc1000 seems to be preferred, its a little pricey though -
i can feel cold air around the openings of my notebook but i dont really find significant changes in the temperature/
-
should i change my fan speeds?
