Nope. But the audio pass-through will take CPU time, of course, and possibly slow down transfer rates from things like external drives.

That being said, I've really liked every Targus accessory I've had, from the accessory bundle I got to the backpack. Good build quality, the USB function is perfect (I have a USB number pad I love). So if it has the features you want, I doubt that it'd be a bad investment.

How does this devices audio take CPU? It's not like the built-in hardware on their port replicators.

This device should be no different then if I went and got a $3 female to female 5mm audio cable... Cable from speakers goes into the hub, cable from hub goes into laptop... hense "pass through"

All the devices I have are USB, and I'm using wireless for the network. Built in LCD is much better then any other screen I have in the house. Seems like a very affordible solution in place of a port replicator...

Ohhh... never mind :) I thought it just intercepted sound signals. That'll require like, 3 cables rather than just 1 then. But it should work fine. I don't really see the point of it on a laptop as the headphone ports are easy to access anyway, but to each his own ;)

No problem.... I double checked when you said that because I was sure that it wasn't passing the audio stream through the USB...

The point is not that the plug is hard to get on my laptop.. but I've got mine hooked up to a high-end Altec 5.1 surround system, and I'd rather not have to deal with that cable mess. With this, I could plug the "cable mess" into the hub, and run a single usb cable and audio cable to my laptop.

My current situation has 3/4 usb plugs (mouse, keyboard, nostromo n52, and sometimes a pen drive), and a "triple treat" audio connector from my speaker system, even though I only need the 1 plug from it, the wires are bound up till the last couple inches...
