    Hi

I recently bought myself a Dell Vostro 1700. I've been shopping around for a laptop bag for this. I came across the Targus SafePORT system which offer very nice protection, but I have only seen it for 15.4" laptops.

I came across the CPT401DUS | Targus Blacktop Deluxe 17” Deluxe Laptop Case w/ Dome Protection ( http://www.targus.com/us/product_details.asp?sku=CPT401DUS). This came up as a hit after I searched for SafePORT on Targus' website. But nowhere in the specification does it say anything about the SafePORT. Can anyone confirm whether this bag has it or not?

If not, are there any other 17" bags (from Targus) which has that feature?

If the answer is still no, does anyone know of another kind of bag (maybe Samsonite etc) which has a similar protection system? Not just the normal padding, but something extra.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards and thanks in advance,

    Johan

I recently purchased a Vostro 1700 and part of the purchase included a Targus City Gear carrying bag. I take it dome protection has some strong innards in the carrying bag.

I'll be truthful the City Gear carrying bag has some nice protection. Unless your handing your laptop to the airline baggage crew I think the City Gear bag will be adequate enough. It's on the Dell website by the way.

Oh and your link doesn't work. ;)

edit: I looked on their website and found a brief description:

"The Targus Blacktop 17” Deluxe Laptop Case with Dome Protection offers unique style in a highly functional case. The patented Targus Dome Protection System™ prevents scratches caused when the screen is forced into the keyboard during travel."

FWIW Targus's SafePORT cases generally are top-load only--not the usual clamshell style.

Trouble is that, at last check, SafePORT is only available in the Corporate Traveler, Global Executive, Revolution and Port/Noteworthy case families--none of which feature a 17" model.

That said, the SafePORT system is not the same as the Dome Protection system. The former protects the bottom and side edges of the laptop while the latter only protects the face of the lid.

In related news, I currently own two Targus cases equipped with SafePORT protection: a Port/Noteworthy case for my older 15" Toshiba and a Corporate Traveler for my newer 15.4" ThinkPad.

Oh no. Oh well, then that is that.

Does anyone know of another kind of bag that has the same kind of system? Have a look at the SafePORT here.

    Thanks
