Im a bit worried that my Zalman NC1000 wont exactly fit well in my targus slam backpack (brand new) because it just seems a little sharp around the edges. Was this cooler meant to be portable? or just for a desktop replacement kinda thing

You could consider it to be a portable cooler, however it is quite heavier and larger than other coolers that are designed to be portable. I think the NC1000 was design primarily for home use, rather than being portable. Most portable coolers use lighter materials (plastic), have slimmer profiles, or even collapsible.

I use mine for home use only, but if you have space in your bag I see no reason why can't take it with you.
