Hi, I am considering buying a targus bag, it is the messenger miami bag.
    http://www.targus.com/ca/product_details.asp?sku=TCG200
that is the link at targus, on for 69 CDN

I have the chance at getting one for 49 CDN from london drugs, as well, there is this combo, only available from futureshop and bestbuy online at 49 with a free wired kelidiscope mouse with the miami messenger bag.
    http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0926INGFS10065260&catid=20184#

Does anyone have any experience with targus bags and their quality? I am also considering the standard targus bag. this is 39 at london drugs
    http://www.targus.com/ca/product_details.asp?sku=CTM300

    your thoughts would be appreciated

I bought this at BestBuy for around $48 with their sale, it's pretty sweet but I haven't used it outside of the house yet. The construction and quality seem to be very good. The mouse is alright but I'm going to buy a wireless logitech anyway. The rainbow glowing is pretty neat. The bag has a ton of zippers, pouches, all kinds of options. Cool!

Also, the bundle bag is white in all the places that are yellow on the Targus website. It looks much nicer without the yellow.

thats great, thanks for the reply. ive seen conflicting reports on the bag size, some say its designed for 17in and some say 15.4 in, i have a 15.4 in laptop so i would like a case that fits it well. how is the padding on all 6 sides?

The bundled one is 15.4" even though I couldn't find this bag in that size on Targus's website, strange. It's perfect with my 14.1" laptop since it's the same width as a 15.4". There is an adjustable velcro divider in the main section for thinner laptops but the width is just right for mine. I'll go check the padding...

The padding isn't that thick but I think it will do the job. On the front there are several layers in front of the laptop section which would provide extra padding and it seems to have a good amount on the bottom. The sides seem to be a little less padded and the top where the handle attaches is really rigid which is cool, I didn't realize that.

oh ok, well that worked out well for you. i think i remember seeing a similiar product in a store, and this targus messenger back came with a nice poly sleeve, is yours containing one as well?

ya, i am really considered with padding on the bottom edges as i sometimes tend to forget that i have a laptop in my bag; however, i am sure this will change as i being to carry my laptop more and more.

I'm not sure what you mean by sleeve but mine didn't come with a separate sleeve. That little cell phone pouch is removable and there's a fuzzy drawstring bag for the mouse.

i just ordered a targus los angeles for myself which is made for 17" notebooks. I hope it has a large enough compartment for 2.5"+ binders instead of multiple small ones or else i would have to start organizing my stuff differently

I just bought that one for my personal computer. I'll admit it's larger than I would have liked it, but the layout is excellent. However, I can't see it really holding a few 2.5" binders. The last "filing" slot is divided into three slots, so you might be able to fit one binder, in total, in that area. You might be able to fit one binder into the laptop slot, if your laptop is fairly slim.

For those who want a large bag yet have only a 15" notebook, there's a flap in the laptop slot that can be folded up to fit perfectly.

I remembered looking at this one and seem to recall it not having a velcro strap to keep the computer from flying out when the outer flap is unlatched. There is a 17-inch version of that bag that I was eyeing, but the last thing I needed was to take a corner hard and hear my laptop bounce off the walls of my trunk.

My last few bags have held up pretty well over the years. The one you show there is the current one I'm using. It's a very light case, and the computer slot is good enough to hold both the work computer and the power cable. However, any mice or other accessories you'll be skimped for room. The good thing is that this one has a velctro strap in the laptop area so you can secure it that way. Padding around it is quite sufficient.

I'm not sure where you are, but the only store I've been able to find all these Targus bags is at CompuSmart. Oddly enough, the larger bags don't appear online but their stock is quite limited at stores (suggesting they are going like hotcakes). Their selection is pretty good with a lot of Targus offerings. Otherwise, you can check out Staples, Future Shop or Best Buy. However, those stores seem to offer other brands like Swiss Army, Kensington, Case Logic, Samsonite, and other unfamiliar brands.

great posts people. i can get both targus bags at london drugs in Vancouver. we also have a compusmart here in vancouver, which is where i bought my laptop from; however, their prices are higher on these backs than london drugs.

is velcro really that necessary, i know the miami messenger back has the plastic snap, and shouldnt that be enough? maybe not, you may forget to snap the thing is at times..

ive gone through some times of intense thinking, deliberating whether or not i should stick to one of these cases, or just buy a sleeve and put it in my nice lowe pro backpack.

That was my one fear...forgetting to snap the thing and having the computer bounce about. Or, even if you just move your bag out of the way and it accidentally sliding out of your bag.

Remember too that Targus offers a limited lifetime warranty on the bags. Alternatively, there are a lot of knapsacks by Targus for laptops.

yea, now that i think about it, velcro is a big bonus. hmm, all this talk about finding the best features is motivating me to finding a sleeve instead.

yes, i saw that on their website. this is suprising since some other manufacturer's bags at similiar prices do not offer the lifetime limited warranty, only a 1yr warranty.

My 15.4" mouse bundle version of this bag has the velcro strap over the laptop section. It doesn't pin down my laptop that well because being a 14.1" the laptop is shorter than the height of the case, but it would still keep it from flying out I guess.

deaddy, does the bag come with a sleeve? if so, how is it? size, padding, method of closing? is it designed for 17in, wait, yours is a 15.4 special, so how does that one fit to your notebook?

I don't think it comes with a sleeve, I don't really know what you mean. I said before that it's just the case plus the cell phone pouch and mouse bag.

The bag fits my 14.1" laptop perfectly in terms of width and I've read that it's the same width as 15.4" ones.

I described the padding of the case a few posts ago.

I hope mine wasn't supposed to come with a sleeve, it's not shown on the Targus website.
