After using a nomad zen for a year (3 actually as the first two died), I switched to an ipod (40gb 4g). I give the zen 6 outa ten and the ipod 8.5. Its size, build quality, good looks, ease of use, and ability to operate as a driverless hdd make it so much better than the nomad/creative offering, which I liked but it had to many weird hang ups and I would always have to carry a paperclip to reset the thing...it would lock up weekly...very annoying.
Would give the ipod 10 if it had longer batterylife, colour screen, fm radio....wish I had waited a month for the ipod photo. Oh and I wish I could sync the playlists and rating info from my ipod back to my itunes library.

BTW - only room for 8 answers. I picked Rio. I love their Cali models. I don't need storage for all of my music, a few albums is enough. With an SD card slot, there are plenty of options.

I assume this refers to hard drive mp3 players since all those companies specialize in hard drive models. The ipod is still supreme because of its simplicity, followed closely by rio and the new creative players.

Before I used up my best buy replacement plan and got rid of my ipod, it would let me do both of those things, are you sure it can't? -
I think you can if you let itunes auto update/sync your ipod with your library, but I have to manually manage mine as my library is much larger than 40Gb, and I use it as an external hdd quite abit, something I couldn't do if left it in auto manage.

wow still no vote for creative...i thought at least with their new zen model that run 20 hours plus should at least get some vote...lol. Well It look like the field is going to be a race between ipod and iriver with rio right behind.

I just got too annoyed by my nomad zen. The other problem is that creative release way to many products on top of each other. Take a look at how many nomads they have released in the past 2 years (I count 5 + jb3 makes 6). I got the orginal nomad zen, by the time it got to Australia and I could purchase it from a store, they released and updated model, thus my model was no longer getting supported ie no more firmware updates, that was less than six months from orginal release date(nb: the nomad zen needed more updates). If creative can't support or build a product that they think it the best ever (for at least a year) they how do they expect me to. At least apple appears to have some faith in their products, which is why I got an ipod.

I got a Muvo2. I really like the size. I don't need super big one since I only got about 1000 songs. I figure I can fit another couple thousand on there before I run out of space. I also have the Belkin Tunecast II. I put it on random and make my 30 minute journey to work commercial free. The buttons are kind of small, but now that I've had it a few months I can work them without looking at them.
I know things, things that could get me killed -
I have the 4th gen Ipod so I have to vote for the IPods (even though I've never really used any of the other players listed, lol) . I've never had any problems with it but the battery life sometimes seems shorter than 12 hours (probably cause I often use the backlight). I'm a bit jealous of the 20+ hour battery life of the Dell's. It's one of those things once you have it you can't live without it [

Regarding the Dell, from what I heard it seem to be lower version of the Zen Touch since the Zen Touch provide the scoller and also the 24 hours battery life. For the price, both seem to be very good nonetheless.
