My friend's laptop was dying and asked if he could use my laptop charger. I thought it was fine because our laptops are the same models, same size, and the only different is that mine is special edition, and his is not. We have HP's dv2000. Mine is special edition though. We have the same looking laptop chargers. Can this use cause problems?

    Nope.

In fact, other than ordering a replacement from HP your friend could go to a place like Radioshack or Circuit City (The Source in Canada) and get a 3rd party one as long as the voltage/amps match.

It should be fine so long as the power amounts are the same (i would think so). Dell has been using the same power supplies for years and years, and i wouldn't be surprised if hp was too.

As ^^ said. Dell has been using the same adaptor (slight size changes) for years!

The only things that matter are the W ratings which I am guessing is 90W.

As your laptops are the same model, no worries! You will be fine!

my Gateway's adapter died. it's molded from the inside so i cant open it.

anyway, I've seen this APC TravelPower adapter that can supply 19V at 3.4A. the original gives an output of 19V at 6.3A.

would it be good to get a charger with lower ampere output? i think the charger will be stressed because the laptop will be consuming more than what it can provide.

    please enlighten me. thanks. =)

go with the higher ampere adapter. It can supply additional juice if ever your nb needs it

talked to a Gateway representative. he told me to get anything except for something that surpasses 6.3A. he even suggested a 3A or 4A, just not higher than 6.3A

    that's what made me think.
