    Hi there,
does anyone have this backpack and can offer his opinion on the laptop compartment, is the bottom padded?
These are the dimension for the laptop compartment: 14" x 11" x 2"
My laptop measures 14.3"x10.6"x1.6 , do you think it'll be possible to fit? Or do you think it really can't go taller than 14"? :s

I have the Recon but the padding (especially at the bottom of the laptop compartment) leaves little to be desired. I use my Recon every now and then to transport my MBP but I am ohhhh soooo careful. I don't recommend you buy this bag as your stand alone transport carrier. The Recon is an excellent back pack!! Probably one of the best I ever had. But it really should not be considered an option to carry your laptop. If you do, you are leaving your hands in the laptop guardian Gods... ;)

Hmm, so you say the padding is kind of mediocre... if not bad?
I need to carry my laptop every day to school, any other the North Face options with better padding then?
While I'm at it... better be somewhat waterproof as well ;)

The bottom padding (which is very slim and narrow) can and will move -- possibly leaving your laptop with little protection toward the bottom. I recommend you bring your laptop into a retail store and try them out. I bought the Recon without my laptop, and by the reviews I had read online -- had I brought my laptop into a store, I don't believe I would have bought this model. Great pack but there are better are there for protecting laptops.
