Hey guys im gonna be getting a Dell e1705 and im gonna be doing some mobile gaming at lan parties, your occasional ridiculous family vacation, and of course your normal everyday school shinanigans. However i was wondering what would be the perfect carrying case for the mini titan.

Im thinking for more of a messenger bag look like the Roadwired Skooba Sleeve Large for on the go stuff, but i realized the laptop may be more than 7 pounds... hmmm. unforunately it doesnt have enough room for normal school stuff, so im thinking this would be ok for on the go shindigs or lan parties. THe thing about this carrier is the comfort of it, it can evenly distribute the weight because of the wide shoulder strap but has no room for things like the ac power block of school materials. heres the link
    http://http://www.roadwired.com/store/Product.cfm?categoryid=1&Productid=89

Then another choice of mine would be the Targus 17 inch miami case , the case runs a bit heavy at about 3 pounds, which will put the whole package at about 10 pounds or so, add in another pound for school supplies (assuming theres no textbooks) and yuv got 11 or 12 pounds. heres the link for it.

Next comes the comfor aspect of all cases, since the laptop runs at about 7 or 8 pounds with the 9 cell battery, its a frikkin behemoth, nowhere near a ultraportable, more like a fat newborn baby of sorts (<--yes yes i know, a very bad comparison indeed.) So a backpack may be a more suitable choice. Does anyone have any suggestions for backpacks? Any reviews or constructive criticism of the above 2 cases would be fantastic. Thanks guys. :)

I actually liked the comparison :) I had an XPS, I almost died carrying it before I got a backpack! Don't make the same mistake I did, get a back pack. Check out the Targus backpack 17" XL which or buy the XPS back pack from Dell? It's much bigger and carries more stuff.

A much more convenient solution is the the Targus 17" XL Rolling Notebook Case. Doesn't look too hot but much more comfortable.

I would definetally go with the rolling case but I don't know if you would want to be caught with that on campus.

    Good Luck.

I have the Targus case you listed for my E1705 and I love it. It looks awesome, is really comfortable and it fits all my accesories well. I even tote around my Pacific Breeze cooler everywhere I go. It has a removeable cell phone holder and a "pop" out water bottle holder that allows you to keep the condensation off the important stuff inside.

You won't be able to throw text books in there, but it will allow you to carry some DVD's along with your normal gear. I've been extremely pleased with the purchase.

+1 for the Targus Miami messenger bag. Nice and sturdy, has lots of storage and doesn't look big and bulky.

I have the same case as well and I too love it. I have my lappy + charger, mouse, cd wallet all in the main compartments. Then in the front thing I put my Digital Camera and iPod. and it doesnt look bulging at all. The only time is can be a problem is if you're like bending over and it swings. But besides that which doesnt really happen, no problems here. I got it for $35 from Amazon.com

I wouldn't get the Pacific Design Action II Backpack that was posted earlier. I had one for a while and it's not a LAN party backpack. There isn't a ton of space and fitting a 17" notebook in there is not easy, and it pushes out the corners a lot. The padding also isn't phenomenal. If you're willing to go with a backpack the Mobile Edge Premium Backpack is great. It has a lot of room for everything you would need to bring, and there's a lot of padding for your computer. I'm actually selling mine, however, because it's not a great school bag. It's great for Lan parties and your normal shindigs, but it's kind of a hassle to have to unclip the flap every time you need to switch out books, etc. The flap is really nice for added protection against theft or tampering if you're going on vacation and carrying it around airports, etc though.

From what I've read the Mobile Edge Premium Backpack is stated by many to honestly be too small for some 15" notebooks. Knowing that I can't really say it'd be a good idea to get one for a 17" notebook

I don't know where people get that notion. I have the backpack, and have carried a 6000 in it without issues, as well as carrying my M1710 just about every day. I've got some pictures of it with both notebooks in this thread if you are interested.

well one thing is u said m1710 thats a smaller one. we are talkin about the
e1705 which is a 17" screen. from the pics u show also looks like u have a smaller notebook inthem. its an xps but i cant tell what kind.
also ive seen on there main website the dimensions of the bag are 15.5" L x 10.5" W x 2.5" H. how does that come to fit a 17" labtop?

has anyone found a decent case yet? if so show what kind. remember it has to fit a 17" dell computer thats quite big.
