I'm curious what your thoughts are on safety between different carrying methods, comparing resistance to...
-thieves
I think that a sleeve and plain backpack would be much safer from thieves, as backpacks generally don't carry notebooks, while notebook cases always carry notebooks. If you were a thief, which would you go for? Just a notebook sleeve by itself would be pretty obvious too, and thieves could see that.
-physical damage to the notebook.
Here's what I'm not sure about- a backpack is carried several feet higher than a notebook case, so there's potential for a lot greater damage, but backpacks rarely fall off, and since they are kept close to your body, they don't hit much (except when being put on or off), while standard notebook cases would be much, much more likely to have many small bumps into various objects.
Also, your mode of transportation might affect safety here- if you go everywhere by car, standard nb cases would be slightly easier to take in and out of the car compared to backpacks, but if you travel by bicycle, how on earth do you carry a nb case around?!
-wear and tear on the user.
Backpacks seem to distribute weight more evenly for obvious reasons.
So, any thoughts? I'm just deciding what's the safest way to carry my laptop.
Thanks,
Cyrus

A backpack... but it depends what all you're carrying. I have a backpack and with all my books and my notebook it weighs nearly 30 pounds. Not very comfortable.
