Okay maybe sound stupid but I want to know the difference between a dock station and a port replicator. Since I'm new on this I want to know that in that way don't make the mistake on buy the wrong thing. What I want is something I can connect my laptop to a gaming keyboard and a external monitor without need to open the laptop...

A docking station is more complete. It will contain various ports (4 or more USB, monitor, keyboard, mouse, maybe firewire) and it will also contain a power suppy wich means you won't need to use the laptop's normal power supply cord. It will also contain a power switch. A docking station is made so you just drop the laptop on it and have all the pc conveniences ready and when you,re done you just pop the laptop out and leave.

Thanks for this. In other words the port replicator is basically a simple small basic version of a docking station.
