If I am not mistaken the TactX is basically a G9 or G9x. Its a popular mouse so I would recommend you head down to your local futureshop or bestbuy etc and try it out or at least get a feel for it. :)

I used to own a G9. It was a solid mouse, although none of the three grips were really ideal for my hand. Still, the dual-mode scroll wheel was neat, and the adjustable DPI came in handy sometimes.

I have both the TactX and the G9X. G9X is the far better mouse in my opinion. TactX is smaller, lighter and doesn't have the weight inserts that the G9X has which I love. TactX feels like a childs mouse because of its size and weight. I use the TactX as a backup to my G9X. Both have same DPI. The only benefit the TactX has over the G9X is the ability to change colors with your system using Alien Command Center. But as far as performance and feel goes, G9X hands down.

Edit...I also owned a G9 before the G9X. TactX is smaller than the G9 as well. G9 wasn't very durable, which is why the G9X came out quickly after. There were a lot of RMA's on the G9 for it's cord and left click button dying. I RMA'd 2 G9's that I owned. They replaced the 2nd with a G9X which I have loved ever since.

Smaller and lighter than the G9/G9x are positives for me. I had a G9 for some time. I have small hands and could never fully adjust to the wider grip. I also couldn't find an ideal weight, even with all of them removed. I'd love to try the TactX, but can't really justify spending money on it when my MX518 works absolutely perfectly.

Don't get the Alienware TactX (and I *LOVE* Alienware). I owned one for about 5 days, then re-sold it.

It works fine as a mouse. But you pay far too much for aesthetic features which I consider to be absolutely useless towards mouse performance. You mostly get customizable colored LEDs. Neat gimmick, but doesn't help your mouse perofrmance one bit.

If you want a good mouse, I'd recommend you check out the Logitech G9x or the Logitech G500, depending on the features you want. The Logitech G9X has a similar shape to the TactX, but uses a superior Avago 9500 imaging sensor compared to the Alienware TactX, has swappable grips, and adjustable weights. The Logitech G500 uses a different shape than the TactX / G9X. Has adjustable weight system, and same Avago 9500 sensor as the Logitech G9X.

TL;DR - don't get blinded by appearance and branding. Buy the mouse that is a better MOUSE, not the mouse that is prettier.

I've tried out my friend's G9 (before it died). Never really liked the feel, and couldn't grip it properly enough. Using the Razer Deathadder now, which is more suited to my grip style.

Thanks for all the response :)
OK so the main advantage of the G9x is the customisable grip and weights. (and im pretty sure it has customisable colours as well)
tbh thought, this isnt worth the extra $30 for me (i dont have large hands at all, so the tactx sounds like it could work for me).
however i think i might hav read somewhere that the g9x has a super sensitive left click, which could deserve the extra $30
so does anyone know how sensitive the tactx click is? (the main reason.... actually the only reason, is for fps, where you can fire single shot guns faster :D)

Rightfully said,i own a G700,some say it looks damn ugly, but not many mouse can compare to the feel & control of it.Most important of all, when you are using your pc,do you spend more time looking at the screen or the mouse?

G9X is hands down the best mouse I've ever used and would recommend it to anyone. I've tried 7-8 mouses in the last few years and this one takes teh cake.

I agree with what Voodooi says. Finding a good mouse like the g9x is hard. The g9x is perfect for me because my fingers do not slide forward which is good.

Voodooi- I thought logitech replaced yours with a g700?

if I could buy one for that price I wouldnt hesitate. However, in Australia, the lowest price i can find is buying through dell at $130 compared to the tactx at $100. logitech market them as $200 rrp in australia >>
