Can I get some thoughts on the usefulness of an external battery? For example, here's one:

I'm thinking of getting a Dell laptop, but I want the 6-cell battery and I don't want to get the 9-cell or two 6-cells. Basically I cannot have the laptop tilted by the battery for ergonomic reasons, and this is an absolute requirement. So I want the 6-cell battery for the laptop. However, I want extra battery life. I don't want a second Dell 6-cell battery because there's no way to charge both of the them at the same time, or charge one while you use the other one. So my idea is, get an external battery pack which can charge at the same time as the laptop's battery, then take it with me.

Wondering if anyone has experience with external batteries. There are some threads from 2004 (!) which discuss this, but not much recently.
