For those using the Monolith, I have a question. www.tombihn.com says the sleeve actually suspends the laptop with the padding (as opposed to just having it rest inside the padding). Is that correct? I saw a cross-section of the Brain Cell, and it looks that way.

    Thanks

Their Brain Bag does this, it's suspended a few inches.

The Brain Bag is a back pack made by Tombihn.

The Brain Cell and Monolith are notebook sleeves, they both suspend the notebook which is no big deal really. The point is that the most proection is on the bottome of the sleeve so if you set your bag down with a thump the notebook is protected. The monolith is designed to hold the notebook vertically, so its taller than it is wide, which is great for back packs. The Brain cell is designed to hold it horizontally which is better for messenger style bags.

While the BrainCell and Monolith put the most proection at the botton the other sides received padding aswell.

I use the Brain Bag backpack with the monolith sleeve for my lenovo X40 and it works grea.

I think I'm going to find an option that doesn't suspend the computer. It strikes me as a failure point; I'd prefer a little extra padding underneath, rather than having it suspended by padding, if that makes sense.

I'm not sure whether or not it will fit, but I like the Kelty Fargo ( http://www.campmor.com/webapp/wcs/s...Display?memberId=12500226&productId=39198899). It's probably a tad short, but, because of the sliding bucke (rather than a zipper, which I like, or Velcro, which I hate), it should be able to fit my computer (14.1x10.3).

Of course, if you think my reaction to the suspension is unwarranted, I'd reconsider; I can't see either in person, so I'd love to hear whatever you have to say about the Monolith (or, if anyone's got it, the Fargo).

To me the monolith is the best sleeve for carrying your notebook in a backpack. It has lots of padding and protection so it take a little more space than a slim sleeve would. I wouldn't let the suspended thing throw you.
