I read the review of the Targus but haven't found one for the Tom Binhn Brain Bag w/ Brain cell yet.

What do you guys think of these two? How much better protection does the Brain Bag offer? (I assume it gives better protection from the price tag 2x the price of Targus....)...

Has anyone used the Targus bag in different situations and found it sufficient or lacking?

In terms of use...I'll be traveling quite often, and the backpack will probably see everything from the metro to the classroom to the conference room at work. It'll probably see a lot of rough, wet weather and get sandwiched between big crowds fighting and shoving to get onto subways in less than civilized ways. I probably won't be doing anything extreme like rock-climbing or bungee jumping or swimming with it though.

I'll also be carrying a lot of heavy books and papers most of the time too, so space is a consideration, but I dislike things TOO bulky on my back.

If you guys have any suggestions of better bags too, I'd love to hear them as well.

    Thanks!

Well, the targus is a messenger bag, is it not? Compared to the brain bag which is a back pack. If you have the brain cell the brain bag is a nice addition, since it was made to fit the brain cell.

A more fair comparison would be the Super Ego or the Ego if you are comparing messenger bags.

Hrm...after some more research, I decided that the Targus just wouldn't leave me enough room for all my books (plus I don't like the squarish shape)...

Besides the Brain Bag though, does anyone else have any other suggestions for backpacks?

How is the north face - surge, for example?
