Well i have 5 remote controls in my room...

    what to do?

juggling between them is very confusing and i often take 10 seconds just to realise i am holding the wrong remote.

    How are these universal remotes?

    how do they work?

I think you can program it by pointing your old remote to the universal one then it will copy the function of the button you press

not really sure though.. check the logitech website. They seem to sell good universal remotes

You program them by punching in a number. They all come with a big booklet with pretty much every model of TV/speakers/etc... and you get to sift through that and find yours.

    Yeah, it's also 2-4 hundred freaking dollars...for a remote.

Buy a cheapo regular one for ~$30.

A friend of mine has a logitech harmony 525. Cost him AU$99 but they are cheaper than that now. He tells me it was a **** to set up with all the macros, but I can say its awesome once its done, one for a dvd etc, and one to turn everything off....

I got an XBox edition Harmony for $129 two years ago. It runs everything in my home theater taking the place of 5 remotes. Look on eBay and I'm sure you'll get them cheaper.
