I am looking for a solid usb flash drive. I have a memorex travel drive I use at home, but it isn't vista compatible (i think) and this one is going to be for business and i would prefer it have some sort of privacy/password protected area for our data.

    Any suggestions --- ?

P.S. I bought the Kingston Data Traveler 400 - didn't really like the swivel thingy -- and its "thick" -

Thanks in advance - I'm sure there is a thread somewhere but things change so fast I thought it might help to go fresh -- thx.

I don't think their is a best, but I could be wrong............

Watch for a kingston, sandisk or memorex on sale at bestbuy, circuit city, etc.

the prices are really dropping and you can pick up an 8GB for under $50 now

I like the memorex we have at home - its thin, cool looking, really fast, but when I plug it into our vista machines it freaks it out - i don't think they are vista compatible -- or have security -

I have the Corsair Flash Voyager GT 2 GB and the Flash Voyager GT 4Gb, and both of them are extremely fast.
They average around 29mb/sec, which is very fast for a USB flash drive

I just got the new Sandisk Cruzer Titanium Plus and it is very slick, has some good transfer speed, and is 4GB at a budget price for the product. Everythingusb.com has great reviews, OCZ has the fastest right now, but I like the Corsairs more.

i have a sandisk u3 or w/e, which is decent. its like a switch blade haha.

decent speeds, but it kinda shakes loose sometimes if your using it on like, the front usb port of a desktop.

and it has its own software which is kind of annoying, but you can run applications off of it, so its pretty cool

I am on the fence atm about the U3 tech. It is very annoying and is anti-productive on any less than par computer, thus for tech support, it is nearly useless. Based upon the U3 freeware section, it is not even worth it. The only thing that may be nice is the security, but it will format the drive is password fails on their new Plus. I am uninstalling it when I get the push...but overall I suggest the Titanium Plus, super durable, and fairly quick.

I currently use the Kingston DataTraveler 2GB and it was a nice improvement over the Microcenter store brand one i use and would recommend it to others

I just returned my Voyager GT 2gb key back to Corsair under an RMA because it no longer works after very little use in less than a year.

Shipping the damn thing back was half of what I paid for it!!!

I also have a Memorex 2gb U3 drive that has been a rock since day one and I use it 8+ hours a day running portable apps from it.

My last post was about drives more geared to security. If your less concerned about security, and just want a solid drive, I can highly recommend the Lexar Jump Drive Lightning. It's very well built, looks great, and has been serving me reliably every day for over a year of very heavy use.

Yes they are slow, but in my opinion, they are all around decent. I have had a San Disk micro on my key chain for the past 2 years and despite being dropped from scaffolding, hot-unplugged, drive over by another car, and dropped in the pool (once), it still kicks, it is more reliable than the numerous other secondary drives I have had to use. This new Titanium is more resilient than, as I have found, 1 to 2 other drives, yet cost half the amount. The even better slice is that for all those that get Best Buy or other script and have no use for overpaying for products, it is the perfect buy, as the Best Buy flash prices are not so bad. I have found that a lot of the super fast drives have some build issues, save those 2 considerably overpriced devices. Thus, for those who abuse their gear, T Plus is the way to go. My 2 cents...

Ugh, Datatravelers, I have a 2GB one myself and I have to say it's the biggest POS I've ever used. Read speeds aren't terrible, but unless I'm copying a movie or single file (~3-5MB/s), I can get as low as freaking 60KB/s copying large amounts of small files! Outrageous!

I have a Sandisk Cruzer Micro. I forgot it was in my pocket, washed the jeans, fund the cruzer in the bottom of the washer. I let it dry for a couple of days. It still works fine and I didn't lose any data from it. It is also faster than most "bargain" flash drives I have used.

The Sandisk Contour line also offers a biometric fingerprint reader if you are particularly worried about the data on it. These are a little more pricey, however.

I went and picked up a Sandisk Cruzer Titanium - 2gb - and I'll have to say its the coolest looking one I've seen and it feels solid. The speeds are good too. We transfer around 10-12 mb files max and it is as fast or faster than the Kingston DT400 that is supposedly "lightening fast" -

And the U3 - I think I had a negative outlook going in because of all the "talk" about it - but if I actually like it. Provides security and you can uninstall any of the programs you want from it with a click.

I'll keep this updated as we use it over time.

    Thx.

Edited: I love the slide part of it, very sturdy feeling. The DT400 I got that swivels around is really loose and annoying. Office Max has the Lexar Jump Drive Secure 2 on sale for $17.99 but I couldn't go for the "cap"
