I recently got a 4gb SD card from newegg
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820208086

This card shows up and Vista/XP ask to format and I say OK, but then a few minutes later says it cannot be formatted. Also tried HP format tool did not even recognize it. Any suggestions (firmware issue...)?
    Thanks!

4Gb SD cards do give frequent problems. The issue is that SD as a standard only went to 2Gb. SD HC goes beyond 2 - but many 'oem-type' vendors introduced 4Gb SD cards just before the wide takeup of SDHC which don't work properly for all readers/writers. And even in the case of SDHC cards, your card reader has to support it to work.

I'm sorry I can't be of much help, but the likelihood is high that you need a different reader for it to work. I would check for firmware updates to your HP's reader though.

Yeah, that's what I was afraid of, but I was trying to get in to work in my BRAND NEW Asus. I would think that Asus would have accounted for 4gb SD cards when they picked out the card reader...I guess not.

Not really. As I said, 4Gb SD's were non-standard and in my experience, some of my readers which work flawlessly with SDHC's choked on them.
