What is the best system to convert 8mm's (or smaller) video tapes into DVD's using a laptop?

I know I could connect my camcorder to my DVD player and burn a DVD as I play the video tape, but I would prefer to use the laptop.

Connect your camcorder to your laptop, and export your video then burn it to a DVD. LOL

Use Windows Movie Maker and export as DV format and then use Windows DVD maker to burn it to a DVD.

    Thank you for your suggestion.

I'm guessing you are referring to use a FireWire interface, which somehow I did not get it with my SONY camcorder. I can use the USB interface to pass data from camcorder memorystick to the laptop but it does not work with transferring analog data from the video tape. Then, I thought I could use a TV tuner minicard and use the S-Video input but I'm not sure about this neither because 1) I don't have it and 2) S-Video carry video only, not audio.

Great solutions, however I got discouraged by old customers, it would seem that they lack quality and sometimes they don't work with all drivers. I guess I could try it since they are not expensive.

This is probably the way I want to go, I will verify if ADS tech DX2 has an stand alone device, one that you don't need to connect the camcorder.

    Thanks for the suggestion.

I went to see it and it has a better price than at the OEM, but one of the feedbacks said the following:

"Other Thoughts: On some of the Gigabyte motherboards this device will not work. Especially the newer ones that support duel core processors............."

And I do have an AMD dual core laptop (IFL90 Compal), so I'm concerned with the above comment.
