Hey guys! I recently made this cool discovery upon surfing youtube videos

This guy took a regular pair of earbuds and used them as a microphone.

What he did is he simply plugged his earbuds into the pink microphone jack at the back of his desktop (or somewhere alongside your laptop) and voila! , he changed his default mic to his earbuds and it worked flawless.

Im going to try this out asap with my 15$ skullcandy's (lol)

Ofcourse the sound quality isnt perfect but its bearable especially if you dont want to buy a new microphone for a gaming session.

Heres the video which i found

It makes sense that it would work (poorly), as microphones are basically just speakers in reverse (I'm, talking technically, not just functionally). I would think though that the pickup might not be great on headphones when used as mic. They are designed to produce vibration rather than pick it up, and I'd think they would have mechanisms to isolate the speaker components from outside vibration. Given how much cord noise and other such things make in it to earbuds though, I could see myself being wrong on that one.

Edit: Yeah, see? He has to turn the recording volume and gain all the way up to get the headphones to pick up at decent levels.

like sirmetman said a mic is a speaker at a core level.

if you just stick your finger in your ear and talk you can feel the vibration, this is what is being picked up with the earbuds.

That's a pretty neat trick! Especially since I'm microphone[less] until I can make it to best buy with cash in hand.
