Hey everybody! I have an ASUS G1S-A1 (15.4") and I'm taking it to university next year. I recently purchased a Shinza Zeroshock III case for it (the 17" Widescreen case, because of my laptop's height from top of screen to bottom of screen). I love the case to death, but it means that I now don't have to purchase a backpack for its protective qualities.
I'm going to Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, and for the most part, the dorms don't take more than 10 minutes to walk to and back to class. Portability of ALL my books simultaneously will not be an issue. However, I'd like to be able to carry the laptop, the power cable/brick, a sketchbook, a textbook and a binder all at once.
I prefer the idea of a messenger bag that is basically just an empty pit (a well-made pit, though). Does anyone have any experience with messenger bags that are A) **COMFORTABLE** and B) *spacious*?
I currently use a backpack that pretty much fits th same description - no padding for the laptop, just maximum space. It managed to achieve a very slim look rather than those massive cube-shaped bags, while holding two binders, a textbook and a laptop-in-sleeve.
In essence, I want help finding a school messenger bag that is comfortable and durable. Side pockets are helpful but I don't need more than a few - I don't carry my cell phone, wallet, pager, iPod and water bottle in my bag.
THANKS VERY MUCH, NBRworld!

I'm in the same position - I'm looking for a sleeve and a messenger bag for my 17" laptop to take to college next year.
Are there any cons to the Shinza Zeroshock III? Also, is their "sizing guide" trustable? That is, is my laptop guaranteed to fit if it's listed there?
Also, I'd like to hear any suggestions on good messenger bags. -
What model is your laptop? Mine wasn't listed in the directory, so I actually sent them a message with measurements as precise as I could make them (length at longest point, length at shortest point, width at widest point, width at thinnest point, height at highest point, height at lowest point, length of feet... those 7 measurements are recommended to include). Within a day, a staff member replied with a recommendation for me to upgrade to the 17-inch sleeve.
If you're unsure, go with that. However, I'd trust them as far as I'd trust the opinion of anyone I know. They take care to make sure their information is accurate. By the way, if your laptop is the HP in your sig, my uncle has that laptop and recently bought a Zeroshock 17" Widescreen case which, as far as I've heard, fits perfectly. Pavilions are made with so few frills around the screen that they have some of the smallest profiles of any 17" laptop.
I wouldn't worry too much about it.
However, with this question answered, we're both still ISO a great messenger bag. Basically, the way I see it, I could go to the local K-Mart and grab the nicest looking bag there, because those are designed to be school bags and so they'll have little padding. However, usually those bags are crudely made, and I want mine to last through university if possible. THIS is why I want a recommendation or two. -
Yeah, the laptop I've got is the HP in my sig. I guess I'll buy the case then.
In the past, for high school, I've bought bags from the local store, and most have fallen apart in months. This is why I'm looking something a little more sturdy to take to college. -
Well, if I don't get any recommendations via this thread, I'll probably go to www.ebags.com and scan them. If I find one I like, I'll ask about it here, and if I get no responses then as well, I'll go to the local store and pre-emptively stitch the notorious weak points (the part where the strap meets the bag) and hope for the best.
Transportation for my lappy
