Hey guys, I am going for a vacation to Nepal this winter. Its a beautiful country. I am planning to carry all my gears. I am travelling via USA---> Narita---->Singapore----> Nepal. My laptop will be useless after I get out of the US because the power plug will be different I believe. So, is there any universal plub or any universal extension cord?

Thanks for help if someone got one. I will really appreciate that.

You can buy adapters for most countries.

Just visit your local electrics store.

And I think this is an accessory question in a way...

I didnt knew where should I post it and thought it is best in off topic. So, mods can move it to accessory forum. Any idea how to get those adaptors or let say a universal multi plug so that I can also charge my cell phone, camera, and stuff.

Your notebook power supply is capable of dual voltage (110/220v) so it works in any country. (double check just incase it doesnt)

You just need to buy the adapter at the airport which costs a couple of bucks.

Check google on what type of plug to use, if you wanna buy the adapter beforehand.

If I buy those multi plug which I listed above, won't I be safe? I hope my laptop charger, itouch charger and cell phone charger are well managed with different voltages of countries Im travelling with the multi plug that Im looking for. The product which Im going to buy says,"These are Adapter Plugs ONLY, They DO NOT Convert International Voltage. They are Made to Permit You to Plug in Dual Voltage Electronics or Voltage Converters into different types of Wall Sockets found in other Countries." So does it mean that its unsafe to plug in my laptop until I get a volt guard or my laptop adaptor will handle it?

    Thanks

It generally says on the box which countries are "supported".

The seller wrote that it will cover almost all the countries. All Im worried is if I need a volt guard or my laptop's charger will handle the voltage?

    hi,
What that says is that the plug DOES NOT CONVERT THE VOLTAGE.It only converts the pins to fit the various sockets in different countries.Just make sure that your power supplies for the different devices ie ipod, cell phone voltage rating matches the socket the adapter will plug into. Not all of the simple power supplies are multi voltage.
    Hope this helps

So what can be done just incase if my laptop voltages doesnot match?
I can charge my ipod and cell phone from my laptop via usb. So, I just need power on my notebook.

Look at your power supply brick, it should say 110-240v AC input. If it does then it will work pretty much anywhere as long as you have the adapter plug for the countries socket.

Yes you can buy those plugs you showed, assuming they are the correct plugs/socket for the countries you are going to visit.

Nearly all computers these days support dual voltage..

Do you think my Dell XPS M1730 with that converter will just run fine without any voltguard? The country Im going has 220V.

So? I think Europe is 240V...

You may want to get a surge protector if you don't trust the power supply

And by the way - I never heard of a Voltguard.

(Speaking about surge protectors - never had any in Germany here in the UK we use thme for our computers...)

Wow, yes Nepal was quite a beautiful country, if you have a chance bring a nice digital camera also and take a picture of Mt. Everest! :) And probably bring a phone/ GPS enabled device.

Goodluck on your notebook universal plug and trip. :)
