I recently bought a 2.5 Hitachi sata drive and bought a USB casing for it.
I plugged it in, and I can see a new drive (F) in my computer along with my drive C and dvd rom. It wont allow me to rightclick -> format. From my limited Japanese, it says disk not inserted in drive F.

I scanned the manual and it said go to my computer -> manage -> disk management -> then a "disk upgrade wizard" or something should popup.
This wizard does not appear. Instead I see the window with my drive C and how it is partitioned, my DVD drives with (no media) on it. and my usb drive (F) also saying that it has no media. Where do I go from here?

yes I plugged the harddisk inside the case.

    thanks!

Are you sure the disk is working? Try formatting it on another computer.

If Windows is deeing the HDD, then the HDD and enclosure are working OK. The other check is to liik in Device Manager.

In the Disk Management, can you right click on the area to the right of Disk 1 (I presume it says Disk 1) and then select format?

Windows should not have given the drive a letter until it is formatted, because if you create more than one partition then each will have its own letter.

tried to do it on another computer, same results...

I went to disk management already, and the drive is there but it says "no media" no formatting options either.

Alternatively, grab the free copy of Microsoft Virtual PC 2007, install a familiar operating system, and format from there, bypassing any hardware conflicts.
