This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

    I know very little about notebooks.. and got ripped off on the three I purchased in the past seven years... Today I got this Thinkpad 560 at a garage sale for 5-bucks, with external floppy, external CD player, 8 gig, W98, and 40 Ram which should be 64 Ram..

    The panasonic CD player doesn't work, and isn't recognized by the system..?

    There isn't anything to connect the Internet cable to.. I suppose it requires a special card...

    I'd like to boost the W98m to W98se, but without the CD player working I need to network the notebook to the Compaq desktop... How does one connect a Thinkpad 560 to a desktop PC, to use the desktop's CD to load the notebook?
