Hi I dont know exactly where to put this, but since i require some sort of KMV switch, i thought id put it here in accessories.

Basically, the way my current setup is, I have a laptop with a hdmi and a VGA ports for video. I run an external monitor off the hdmi port via a dvi-hdmi cable (the monitor only has vga/dvi). From the vga port i run a vga-composite cable, with a composite cable running from my ps2 to the port.

Here is my dilema. I'm trying to incorporate a desktop PC to my setup without changing anything the way it is now, where i will be able to use the same mouse/keyboard for both the laptop and desktop (i use a mouse/keyboard now because the palm rest on the laptop gets hot). I also want the desktop to use the external monitor ONLY, and not the laptop monitor.

I know how i would be able to do this, but it would require sacrificing the PS2, and i dont want to do that. Otherwise, the real dillema i have is that I want the external monitor to be able to show my desktop, while independently managing my mouse/keyboard, ie: to use them on my laptop.

Thanks in advance, if you need more clarification I'll try to go into more detail. (the desktop could support both dvi and vga).

Well... If you don't want to buy a new LCD, then I think you're stuck, because your LCD only has 2 inputs, and you've wired up to both of them. A screen like my Dell 2408WFP has 2xDVI, 2 HMDI/Displayport, VGA, Composite, etc., and would easily handle your problem.

One option would be to use something like Windows Remote Desktop, to access the laptop from the desktop, or vice versa, through the network. This works well if you're running stuff on the target machine that does not involve video, or gaming.

Unfortunately it does lol. There is no switch (KMV i think their called?) that incorporates a monitor into the setup?

edit: I think I have a solution, but it would require me to buy 2 kvm switches, 1 to control the monitor (between my laptop and the desktop) and 1 to control the keyboard/mouse independently, although most switches ive seen are vga and not dvi, so it would be a pain to get all the new converters.
