I just moved over to Vista, and suddenly all of my USB encryption software is incompatible (including U3, which will never be compatible with Vista on my device's firmware -- thanks SanDisk!). So I'm looking for a simple, small-footprint flash drive encryption solution that's reliable and Vista compatible. Freeware would be great, but I'm willing to pay if it gets me a better product.

So far the only product I've found is the Cypherix Cryptainer Mobile, but I don't know anything about it. Has anyone used this software? Or does anyone have any other suggestions?

    Thanks in advance!

Cypherix Cryptainer LE seems to have decent reviews. I haven't heard about Cryptainer Mobile.

Well, one problem I've found with Cypherix Cryptainer is that it creates encrypted vaults that are limited to 25MB. I have individual files that are larger than that, so I'm looking for a program that will encrypt an entire USB drive volume with one password -- or at least something that will let me create vaults that are 256-512 MB in size. One of my Imation thumbdrives came with such a program, but as I mentioned, it refuses to work under Vista, and I doubt that a downloadable upgrade will be forthcoming.

A little more searching has led me to the following products:

Remora Disk Guard, which has at least been updated recently and claims to be Vista ready.

TrueCrypt, which is open source and, according to the website, "Provides two levels of plausible deniability, in case an adversary forces you to reveal the password." This is an advantage as my adversaries are all around me. ;)

Does anyone have any experience running these encryption programs on a USB flash drive? Will they work under both Vista and Mac OS X without any problems? Any advice as to which one is the smallest/fastest/most secure?

Cryptainer's free version limits vault sizes to 25MB. You could buy the full version.

I've heard of TrueCrypt, but I'm not sure if it would run well under Vista and OSX.
