I have this old usb hub that i was using for past month...it was underpowered so i tried an AC adapter to power it up...the moment i inserted the AC adapter into the hub..a blue LED bulb went off with a click sound..

and my entire usb port no.3 is dead on the laptop.

    I supplied 9v to a 5-6 V hub..not that big to damage a usb port is it?

You supplied 9V to a 5V hub...that's plenty enough to destroy anything. Not to mention the power could easily backup into your laptop which explains your #3 failure.

That part of your motherboard is toast, and you can kiss the hub goodbye.

Does a square peg usually fit into a round hole?

Does a 9V supply usually work with a 5V part?

voltage is one of those things that usually electronics will only take what they need. It was the amps that broke it probably.

Claiming warranty for damage you caused would be fraud. I suggest you re-edit your post. HP might be able to see if the controller is fried

9v is nearly twice a USB's rated voltage lol. Your logic board should have blown aswell, but your lucky it took out the USB port first

Actually, you are kind of shot in the foot anyway...post or no. Electrical damage like that isn't too difficult to spot.

HP might just catch on to this one regardless of what is written here.

Well, I guess we can call this one thread closed since you obviously expect to call this on in and blame the manufacturer (HP) and get a warranty claim.
