    USB Port blows again..this time not my fault

    Again usb #2 is dead like the other one.



    I plugged in External HDD while keyboard & XMOD were there.

    now suddenly it dies..

    i tried to put AC adapter LATER..with 5 V only..but it just kept going dead.


    Spoke to HP..they ll do a free repair .

    Maybe these symptoms are starting to show up now but it could have been caused the initial overload which might have shorted out more components than you though. Sounds like your whole motherboard might be ready to go soon :(

    USB controller is dying/dead. Are the dead USB ports on the same side?

    Yeah, this does sound related to the initial failure. You probably damaged the USB host controller in the first snafu.

    Oh, and the moment you plugged that 9V into the hub you killed it. Do NOT try to use it again, you are asking for trouble.

    more than 5V over all the devices? or just any single device more than 5v is bad.

    5v for the entire USB hub to power 3 devices including an external HD.

    well since laptop is in warranty..they ll do a free motherboard replacement hopefully

    i am just worried about the data.
