I'm looking for a USB headset adapter. Ideally with a volume control and mute button, just like the Beyerdynamic converters for their MMX headsets. No need for surround emulation, etc - just a compact, stereo in/out adapter that's bus-powered.
Before you bandy around USB audio interfaces from Headroom et al, I'm familiar with the offerings of the many Hi-Fi BS merchants out there and that is not what I'm looking for. And neither am I looking for something as bulky as a regular USB audio interface such as from M-Audio etc.
There are hundreds of no-name adapters on fleabay and Amazon, but they're an unknown quantity - I'm wondering if anyone offers something in that sort of form factor that is known to be decent. Ideally something with a short cable as opposed to a plug-in-body type, as the latter is more likely to take the USB socket with it should it be knocked.

What about a Turtle Beach Amigo or Advantage with a short USB extension cable?

Wow.. so many threads on the same topic. The OP posted about one made by Sennheiser in this thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=453673

What's the general opinion on the UUSB1? -
No idea but Sennheiser is a top notch company. Going by reputation alone I'd pick the UUSB 1. Then again you never know
-
Actually, the Logitech one is normally bundled with the "premium notebook headset".

Since it's way cheaper, I'd get it. I really doubt the Sennheiser is of better quality. -
Think I'll hunt for the Amigo II.
Search is off for now, I think... thanks -
Anyone know where I can get an Amigo II in the UK? I've turned up no-one. Failing that I will probably get an Amigo, but the II seems to be more exactly what I wanted.
-
I hate how Amigo I doesn't have the little cable. It's like these companies don't realize you can damage a USB port or the motherboard by putting stress on the connector
-
The Amigo II appears to still be on pre-order... I don't think it's actually available anywhere just yet.

I think I might hit up Beyerdynamic Spares to see if they can sell me the USB adapter separately.
