Recently acquired a USB slimine enclosure from ebay as pictured:-

    http://store.mp3car.com/PhotoGallery.asp?ProductCode=COM-002

However, it did not come with screws with which to attach the ATA controller to the back of the case. The optical drive inside rattles about as a consequence. Contacting the seller to provide me with screws has been fruitless thus far so I am being proactive and seeking alternative solutions ie. buying my own screws!

trouble is, i am not too sure what the screw dimensions are. As far as i can gather from studying the pictures scattered around the Web, these screws seem to be flat head, perhaps M2x6mm or M2.5x5mm?

If anyone owns one of these enclosures/assembly kits, do you mind providing me with the screw dimensions please?

    thanks in advance.

Try to install some small bushings to reduce vibration, probably about 4 of them, in between the drive and the plastic case. A hard surface (vibrating) tightened down with screws to another hard surface is not going to solve your problem. Then the whole thing will just vibrate when set on a wooden table. Find something to dampen the vibration in between the two. Bushings, felt pad, felt tape... whatever it takes to quiet it down. Also you could try to lower the speed if you want the drive to run quiet.

sorry....what i meant by "the drive rattles around" is that when i am moving about with it, the optical drive feels like it will drop out at any minute. The drive + enclosure works silently and perfectly when stationary.

It is only being held in place by its connection to the ATA controller board which itself is NOT securely fastened to the USB drive enclosure (but by design, it should be) hence my need for the screws.

I don't see any holes for screws for the enclosure... only the drive has some holes on the side. Try something like mounting tabs or tape in between or silicone but silicone is not exactly easy to clean up. Why is the enclosure open? It just snaps apart or it has four screws to hold the top and bottom together?
