The headphone jack on my notebook is going out, where its getting finicky as to how the cord is plugged in. I was looking at getting a usb soundcard/adapter (not sure if there really a soundcard). And i figure i can get a good boost in sound quality while im at it, so which would be the better setup, the creative xmod or some of the turtle beach setups like http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16829118107 or
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16829118107

or if theres any other similar products for a decent price (would like to keep right around the 60 dollar mark or less, that i can get the xmod for).

    thanks in advance.

Look at USB sound cards from M-Audio. They're very good.

I got the xmod for around 65 off of Amazon. I'm pretty happy with it most of the time. The Crystalizer thing is awesome, most things sound crisper. However, I have problems with the "CMSS-3D." It makes rock/alternative songs sound fuzzy...mainly the guitar riffs. It happens occasionally with techno/trance as well. Thankfully you can turn those options off/on with a switch. But hip-hop/rap sounds great haha.

And also, if you get the xmod, make sure you have a decent set of speakers, otherwise you won't be able to tell the difference. Before my Z-2300s came in, I tried the xmod on my friend's $10 cyber acoustics set and we couldn't hear the difference. With the Z-2300 it was definitely noticeable. However, if needed, I could live without the xmod, though that might just be because the Z-2300s are a great set, haha.
