I'm looking for an ultraportable power supply. The one that came with my Toshiba M305D is really weighing me down and takes a huge amount of space. I am really jealous of the macbook's power supply.

What PSU are you using, one with a car battery in it? LOL! If you are using the original PSU supplied by toshiba I don't think you will be able to find anything much lighter. Whats the part number off your PSU, is it
    PA3283-2ACA? if so it should be 110 x 70 x 30mm, Weight 120g.

Toshiba may have provided a PSU which is more powerful than necessary. To check this you need a mains power meter and then watch the power consumption under the worst case (full CPU / GPU load and battery being recharged). Assume that the PSU output is only 80% of the input power.

I used this method to satisfy myself that my Toshiba R500 was fine with a 45W PSU although it came with a 60W PSU. I actually had to buy the 45W unit from the US because they aren't sold in Europe.

I see your point! It's nearly 4 times heavier than the one I mentioned however that one I mentioned I think is for UK mains. You need to search on the web for an original Toshiba one suitable for your laptop. The one you need is appx 120g.

I'd steer clear of aftermarket power supplies for laptops ...

That looks to be a normal 90W PSU. The 760 grams is quite likely for the complete PSU including the mains cable and box.

120 grams is impossibly light. I have just checked the 45W Toshiba PSU and it is 200 grams without the mains cable.

My appologies! The web page I was looking at had incorrect product specifications.

It's definitely worth a look. The weight according to the manual is 11.4oz which is 0.32kg. However, manufacturers sometimes weigh these units without the cables.

I see that they have provided a very short mains cable and a long (3m / 10ft) DC cable. this will help to keep the overall weight down but means that the PSU may hang from a wall socket.
