    Hi,

I was wondering if It is possible to use a bluetooth mouse as a media remote control.

I had this concept in mind

    left click previous song
    left click hold for rewind
    right click to next song
right click hold to fast forward
scroll up and down for volume
press scroll up and down for browsing the library.

Can I make this happen in any way? :)

Probably not, at least not without a lot of work. The problem is, your mouse is already tied to the system as a... well, mouse.

An alternative would be using your bluetooth enabled phone as a remote, which certainly is doable... I do this with my linux box at home (yes, I'm lazy ;)). There are several commercial, shareware and freeware options just a google away.

Well, depending on the capabilities of the software you have, setting up your mouse to work like that can be very easy. Just assign the buttons to the keyboard shortcuts that correspond to the controls in your media player.

If your mouse's software or your media player don't quite work like that, though, you may be out of luck.

I know that Targus has a multimedia capable mouse.

I have a sxg75 siemens phone. I tried a java software on my s65 siemens before but used to freeze my phone. I will try to find it again. :)

I have used pocket pc with IR as TV remote control when my TV's original remote control went dead.
Your idea of using bluetooth mouse is good.....maybe also check if you can use Mouse Gestures instead to control rewind / forward etc.

It seems like a very complicated and difficult task to accomplish, devarshi84.

Instead, you might look at investing a modest sum in a BT media remote control. That is anyway going to be more portable and better looking.

I have been researching a bit latlely.

What I have in mind is something different though. I have owned a Desktop replacement R4000 compaq for a long time now. Its not portable and neither does it fullfill the definition of notebook portability.

what I am trying to look at is a notebookthat is easy to carry along wiht a remote component that will also let me control it during presentations, movies and music.

A mobile phone mouse browser seems the best case as it saves the burden of carrying an extra gadget. I may look at this remote too because the best part is charging via bluetooth.

It's neat, you store it in the Express card slot ( make sure your notebook has one though ) and it charges itself while stored there too.
