I'm trying to decide between the Logitech V470 Bluetooth Mouse and the VX Nano. My laptop has only three USB ports, so I would probably benefit from a bluetooth mouse, but I've also heard that they can be difficult to pair. Any suggestions? I can get them for basically the same price. I won't be doing any gaming.

Im using the VX Nano now, usability is pretty good and battery life long, the nano usb module is really small.

When i used it with my Toshiba, it was working perfectly! But when i transferred to a new Sony SZ, there are times that the mouse is "skipping" and loosing connection. Still figuring out whats the problem..

Think it would be better to go with Bluetooth? I've read really great reviews about both of them; the VX Nano got a 9.0 on CNET. I'm just not sure if I'd miss that USB port.

I've got both and I'm normally using the Nano. I've not had problems doing the pair for Bluetooth but I would get intermittent loss of connection. The Nano is a size smaller and lighter and is therefore more portable. It also has a few more buttons.

I've just got the V470 out of the drawer to give it another try.

Are they both good on batteries? I think I'm leaning towards the bluetooth right now so I can save a USB port.

Nano is good on batteries. I get a good 4 months out of one AAA. Not sure about the 470

I haven't tried the nano, but I am VERY happy with my Vx Revolution.

I don't think I could stand a even smaller mouse. I'd appreciate the smaller receiver, but the size is just right.

VX nano seems to be the preferred one.

Nano's forward/back buttons (for index finger if you're right-handed) take some getting used to, especially if you had been using a mouse with the usual thumb buttons. Other than that, I'm pretty satisfied with Nano. Btw, does anyone use Nano's frictionless wheel feature?

Yeah.. I have read about intermittent connection loss with the bluetooth mice, but I thought it would be nice to take advantage of the built-in bluetooth and save a USB port. The Nano does seem to be the way to go though. I definitely like the smaller receiver. :)

I love my Nano it is plenty small to travel with but large enough to be comfortable in your hand. And the frictionless scrolling is awesome!

I've put the V470 back in the drawer again. It's fine most of the time but the dropped connection problem was still there.

Except when you overshoot on a long document and spend the next minute waiting for the scrolling to stop.

Well, the nano certainly looks great, but you can't use the middle click!! I couldn't live with that :p

Well you can't. (At least it's mentioned in multiple reviews)

It's only used to switch between "scroll modes" (The ubernew and regular)

Yeah.. I have read that you can change the search button on the VX nano to act as a "middle click."

Agreed, the VX Revolution is outstanding. It's a little bigger, and so is the USB receiver, but it's totally worth it for the ergonomics, button placement, etc.

usually you can change the function of any button on the mouse. Although I have not used a VX nano, I think it will still stand true. I changed many of the buttons on my MX510, one of them changes to the next track on my winamp.

I haven't had any trouble with my V470 so far. When I turn the laptop and mouse back on, it works perfectly. It will take a second or two to wake up sometimes, but it only does it after some time of inactivity like when typing this message. The only problem I've had with it is that sometimes when I'm trying to open a link in new tab with the wheel while browsing, I accidentally use the tilt left which takes me back a page.

I'm using V270 right now and it was useless for a couple of months due to it can't be paired anymore, my pc won't detect it, it sucks. But last month, when I upgraded my BIOS, it suddenly paired with no problem at all, until now, it's working just fine....

I know its different than V470, but its still a bluetooth mouse, get VX Nano or V450 Nano...I dont know which is better than the two...

I had trouble deciding just like you. I went with the VX Nano and have no regrets whatsoever. The VX Nano is really designed as a laptop mouse and it comes with everything you need as a laptop user. The receiver is really small and fits right into the bottom of the mouse. It also comes with a case which fits the mouse perfectly for carrying in my laptop bag. The fast and clicking scrolling is really nice as you can switch modes with just a simple click of the finger. The only thing that I don't like about this mouse is that the scroll wheel sometimes slows down in the 'frictionless' mode, but it is still definitely usable. You said that you wouldn't be doing any gaming so any bluetooth lag would probably not be a problem, but my friend got the bluetooth one and had some lag when playing WOW. Any lag would probably drive me crazy and WOW is not very processor intensive. Also, not all bluetooth setups are universal especially if you plan to use this mouse on linux platforms. I have not used a bluetooth mouse myself so I cannot speak for sure about the compatibility. The VX Nano receiver is very small and works great even at long distances (across the room). The VX Nano has worked on all surfaces that I have encountered with great precision. Setpoint sometimes gets annoying but using the side buttons for volume and web browsing is really convenient. Overall the VX Nano is an excellent mouse in my opinion and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a laptop mouse for gaming or not.

For a laptop, I think the VX Nano is better suited for the job. Also, with the VX Revolution, you have to use a button on the BOTTOM of the mouse to switch between 'frictionless' and click scrolling modes.
