I know my expectations are ridiculous and will most likely not find one but I am hoping someone has been in a similar situation and could help me out. I am looking for a VERY SPECIFIC kind of computer desk and need a hand in finding it. ALL SUGGESTIONS WILL BE CONSIDERED! Thank you in advance!

    -Wide Desk.
-Comfortably fit 3 19" monitors, but likely getting a multi monitor mount.
    -Keyboard tray.
-Ample room for books and other paper work.
-Looking for no more than 3.5 feet deep.
-Can be very wide, plenty of room that way.
-Can be L shape but have that 3.5 feet limit to comfortably accommodate it.
-Would love a desk that is black/silver but any decent dark desk will do.
-Money is not a major concern, however, the cheaper the better :D

I have thought about building it, and then shortly after I thought about how dumb I am because I am not handy at all and I have no tools. Thanks again for any suggestions.

might be easier for you to go to Ikea (or some place) to see what you like. remember that they have L-shaped tables, or tables w/ keyboard trays etc... plus shelfs next to it to put your books

I built my desk, its 8 feet long and 3.5 feet deep. It took me about an hour to build, and costed less than $50. I haven't painted it yet but it works un-painted.

The screen is attached to the desk not the wall. I'm thinking of adding some shelves under it on the sides, the desk is long enough they wouldn't get in my way and the would be very handy to have.

You don't have a screwdriver? ;) I didn't use power tools either. Counter top was pre-cut to my wishes at the store.

What I would do differently now?
Instead of only using those plain table legs I'd put some generic drawers. They would add stability and storage space. Something like this.

Cool desks you two and thank you for taking the time to post the pictures of your desks! Thank you for the suggestions and maybe building it might be my best bet. I could get them at the store to cut the pieces I need and I'll just put it together. I want something with a nice finish though, what is your top made of KLF?

It's a kitchen counter-top. I linked to the specific manufacturer in a later post in that other thread. Since it's meant to withstand everyday cooking use, my computers don't really do anything to it :) Looks almost like new.

Since it's not meant to stand on it's own, it needs extra support underneath (also shown in the later pictures).

i think i have the desk that you are after
    http://i41.tinypic.com/dyzcn.jpg

bought a table top and 2 legs with storage
the top - VIKA AMON Table top - black-brown - IKEA
2 of these as legs - VIKA ANNEFORS Table leg with storage - white - IKEA

and then i screwed the table top to those cabinet legs to prevent the top from moving around
you can also just get regular legs VIKA CURRY Leg - white - IKEA
ikea also sell nice keyboard trays and cable management
i am using this for the cable managment, and it fits perfectly between the 2 legs i used GALANT Cable management - 53 1/8x4 3/4 " - IKEA

just search the ikea site or store and you can make any size desk you want pretty much but this is what i decided to do

KLF's desk is probably a 'Formica' counter top. it is amazingly strong, chemical resistant, and doesn't get dirty easy.

I'd tell you to build it as well considering your requirements, do you have a friend/bow in law that is handy with tools?

As for the counter top, granite i say :p.

Ok... maybe not, it would make for one strong, but expensive and heavy desk.

Something more realistic and nice looking would be to get something you can paint or varnish for the top and buy the legs and keyboard tray to go with it.

I like something like that too: strong and heavy that can't be bumped around. It's a bit too much right now for my temporary apartment, but as soon as I move into my permanent residence, it will be tops on my list.

I hate my generic desk right now. It's flimsy and doesn't have enough elbow or leg room; I bump my knees constantly. I'd also like "wings" that I could pull out to the sides and could place my books and sheets there as I read while I type.

And since I'm wishing anyway, a lower shelf for drink so there's no chance of spillage onto my valuable electronics as well. There, see what you've started OP. Hmm, maybe I should sell my design?
