My Dell XPS M1330 has an HDMI output but my TV does not accept high resolutions from a computer through HDMI. Because of this, I am forced to use the VGA port. I have now ordered two VGA-to-component cables and tried to hook them up to my Vizio 26" LCD TV, but unlike my HDMI cable which shows up in low resolution, I get absolutely no picture through VGA. I have tried these cables with my other computer with no success so I don't believe it is an issue with my videocard/VGA port. Am I ordering the wrong cables? Can anybody recommend a good VGA cable that connects to a TV? I don't care if it goes to component or whatever, I just want to get 720p resolution on my TV.

    Thanks for any help.

Your tv should work fine on hdmi. It is an HD tv right? what resolution are you trying to set it to?

Yes it is an HDTV. However, according to the Vizio website it only accepts a resolution of 640x480 through HDMI. Through VGA/RGB it accepts more varied and higher resolutions.

Here is a link to the site:

    http://www.vizio.com/products/detail.aspx?pid=24

Here is the relevant portion if you don't want to go search for it:

    Computer: 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768, 1366x768 thru VGA/RGB or 640x480 thru HDMI

That is quite odd. These specs are self-contradicting. It says you have HD support over HDMI, but 640X480 is not HDCP. According to this guy though ( http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=845259 ), he's got high res over HDMI on your model and it works. I'd suggest doing the same thing he is doing and setting your res to 1366X768 (NOT 1280X720) if you can.

What OS are you on btw?

Like the guy in the link you sent, I have another computer with a DVI port and when I use the DVI to HDMI I am able to get 1366X768. It is when I use an HDMI>HDMI that the resolution does not work.

I think I may have found the problem with my VGA issue. I am using VGA>Component Video cables that I read would be ok. Now I am reading I need a VGA to VGA (or RGB as Vizio calls it). Am I right about this?
