    Very light 17-inch minimalist messenger?

    Ideally vertical orientation.

I do have an stm Convertible lurking in the recesses of my luggage closet, but I want something with a little more, shall we say, 'pizazz'.

Not to mention less of a tendency to shiny up / damage trousers on the pocket area due to the very rough nylon backing. Uniqlo slacks I don't have a problem with, but tailored suit trousers - oh yes, definitely a problem.

I talked to the guys who're currently putting the final touches on my main bag and I've come to two conclusions - that a) I really haven't got the time to dedicate to a second bag, the existing bag has taken fricken ages to bring to reality and b) it's probably overkill.

All the bag needs is a front pocket which can accomodate AC adapters, etc at a pinch, and a main protected compartment for the 17" notebook. Machines carried will range from 1" to 1.75" thickness.

Budget-wise, my bagmakers have quoted ~€3,200 for a vertical messenger in leather with a padded carbon insert and a front pocket for storage, so anything less would be fine.

Belkin has a nice one .

To be honest, lugging a 17" with a messenger bag is calling for serious problem to your neck and back.

    cheers ...

Don't know of too many vertical messenger bags. Never mind leather. Waterfield's Muzetto comes close (leather, vertical, and messenger-ish), but the largest size is 15".

The Vertigo can swallow a 17" notebook, and certainly is minimalist, but it is not leather. Still, fwiw . . . Vertigo.

    That is a little... bulbous.

It's not an all-day deal. I just need it for occasions where I'm not packing a full bag, or don't want to use a backpack. Between 3 and 4Kg is the most I'll be lugging around for the machine and it's not a horrendous weight to sling for an hour tops at any time.

From what I can see, apart from the colour accent it's not a quantum leap in terms of style or 'pizazz' than the Convertible, although the backing would seem to be a lot more trouser-friendly. An option definitely, but not one to push me over the edge quickly.

    I would suggest:
    http://www.sfbags.com/products/sleevecases/sleevecases.htm

it's not a "messenger" but it comes with an extra compartment and you can add shoulder straps, vertical, a flap, and fits snugly based on your specifications.

I ordered one and enjoy it very much. The company is also based in San Francisco and was very communicative and friendly.

I use a Targus Messenger bag - nylon bag with nice softer mesh where meet the clothes - works well - no issues with my suits I wear for work. Several versions on the website, none in leather I could see tho.

Sure you linked to the right bag? That Bihn (like most Bihns, I have to unfortunately say) is uuuurgly. I did stop by the Targus site, but as usual the bags are uninspiring.

I despair. Is there no-one else who appreciates a bit of real style?

Thanks. Thought as much. I have already been there as it happens and, well, basically the 'design' such as it is, is fundamentally a Dell bag with a bit of coloured piping.

Pizzazz. Style. Not horribly disposable-fashion hipster...

    ...Anyone? No?

better get a student bag. my laptop bag cost 10$, and is from ikea. looks like some cheap crap bag, but works well and no one would ever consider that i cary up to 5000$ worth of hw in there (laptop + dj hardware).

i can let it lie around everywhere.
