    Hey Guys,

I currently own a Dell Inspiron E1505 & want to buy one of those small remote control units that lets you go to the next & previous music track, stop/pause & play music. I like those small ones that fit into the side of the laptop, into the card slot. I dont know if they are available or if it will be compatible. My machine does not have bluetooth but I am pretty sure that it does have infrared. Please tell me what I should get. Cheapest alternative would be appreciated. If they are not available then I dont mind settling for a USB one.

    Thanks in advance,
    Cheers,
    WD

Thanks Shroom! I will have to find that on the UK Ebay as I am based in London!
Are you sure that will work on my Laptop? I have never had a remote for it before. How will it pick up the frequency?
    Cheers,
    WD

Update - I read the product description & it says that it will be compatible with Notebooks manufactured after January 31st 2007. I think mine was made just before that.
Also, in the compatibility section, it says that the Inspiron models it will work with are 1721 / 1720 / 1520 / 1525 / 1526. There is no mention of the E1505. Are you sure it will work with mine?

The E1505 is earlier than those models, if I'm not mistaken.

You can always try searching for "Inspiron remote" or "Dell expresscard remote", or any combination you can think of to help narrow things down. For the record, though, "E1505 remote" gave no results. You may also want to search for the Inspiron 6400, since it is actually the same model as the E1505.

I used that exact remote with my Studio 1535. I'm fairly certain that all Dell laptops with IR ports use interchangeable remotes, as long as they have IR and ExpressCard 54.

    Thanks Shroom!
How do I find out if my machine has an IR Port?

It should be physically visible, most likely on the front of the laptop. It's a universal thing, though, so either all E1505's have one or none do, and I'm not familiar enough with this model to know which.
