    What % does a typical laptop battery lose each day ?

    What is a typical daily loss rate for a lithium-ion (most batteries) battery ?

    Or a monthly loss rate ?

    Dunno bout daily/monthly, but personally my battery is supposedly at 97% after 2 years (checked with HP battery check, dunno how good is that software). I've been taking relatively good care of it,tho.

    My Acer has been pretty good. After over a year, I still almost have 100% charge. While the battery counter in RMClock or Vista might not be super accurate, I still have 4 hours of class in a row. When I first got it I could almost get 4 hours. Now, doing the same tasks, I still almost get 4 hours. There may be a few minutes less, but it's not more than 5-10 minutes.

    When the battery is IN the laptop not outside , I lose around around 1% daily with my samsung X360, when being plugged in the AC outlet all the time

    At 95 % level , after about 4 days , charging kicks in

    I am talking about loss of charge NOT loss of maximum capacity


    At night, I put the computer in low-power state, AC outlet stays plugged in all the time..

    Oh and also, I keep my laptop battery inside my computer at 100% charge at all time (on A/C power), since the power where I am living isn't very clean and I frequently need back up power. I usually unplug it at night and do a full shut down, only rarely (once a month?) does it charge in the morning after I plug it in...

    I have noticed a small battery loss with my LG but I don't think it's a problem. It's only a matter of minutes and I actually don't care because my laptop is always plugged in. I'm using the LG to surf the web and I've had it for one year so I guess it's around 0.2% loss each month.

    Well, my laptop is also always plugged in and I lose around 1% EACH DAY, compare that to your 0.2 % each month...

    How long is a piece of string?

    For example, I've had a relatively large number of pre-unibody Macbook Pro batteries go on a kebab & beer diet and actually swell up within a matter of days, suddenly decreasing in their ability to hold a charge at the same time. I've had Dell and Sony batteries suddenly die, i.e. literally going to near-zero charge hold capability in a day or so. I've had HP batteries which seem to go on for ever, retaining a near-original runtime after 3 years despite pretty heavy use handed out among people who have no idea how to look after their machines, and I've had others which degrade to different levels. Your wear will be, well, what you experience.

    Those are extreme examples, but it does make a good point: Battery life, output, and capacity can vary; and there are too many variables to be sure why one battery last much longer than another. If I were you OP, I'd just stick to the basics:

    1) heat shortens battery life. So remove it when your notebook in plugged into an outlet.

    2) Fully discharge it before recharging as every cycle reduces it's life.

    3) store it in a cool place dry place (but not the freezer) when it's not in use for long period.

    If you do these, most batteries will last between 18 months and 3 years.

    Not sure about the daily percentage lost, but this table might help.

    But like everyone said Heat is a very big factor. So if you are plugged in all of the time or have a laptop that produces a lot of heat, I recommend you removing the battery from the back of your laptop.

    I guess I'm lucky then. My ambient room temperature is 25 deg C or greater and I leave my battery at 100% all the time in my laptop and I've had almost no loss on my battery for over a year now...

    Ouch! Something inside me says that's not good :D You should really check up your laptop if things doesn't get better.

    Some laptops have a battery drain issue.
    (I'm assuming that's battery stored in a laptop)

    lithium polymer batteries discharge at a rate of 1% daily, variations may appear but that amount normally stands true throughout

    that im not sure about, the numbers are knocking about on google, i just happened to come across a chart explaining the Lipo loss, i cant imagine its far above or below 1% though.

    the photo in post 11, is battery wear level, eg unrecoverable capacity lost per year, depending on charge level and temperature, not the charge loss per year.
