A pair of dead Sony MDR-EX71SL -
Creative EP-630
Sennheiser HD202 -
Sony MDR-KX70LB (don't bother, got them dirt cheap, and they are worth the money I paid. But what they usually cost...)
Sennheiser MX400 (dead, but when they were ok, they were ok for their price and their type, and they lasted quite a while)
Sony MDR-CD480 (don't even consider them... not worth it. Would be comfortable, if they didn't have a design flaw which makes dents into your skull (I'm serious), and the sound quality isn't as good as the price makes you think)
Koss KSC-50 (definately worth their money, they sound great. Sure there are better, but not for the like $15 they cost, not even for much more. Ugly as hell though, especially when you wear them. If you're too attractive and don't want to be bothered by all those girls/guys, get them) -
Good topic. I've been considering getting a good pair and should probably look more at Sennheiser then I guess.

So-so Zune headphones
Panasonic RP-HT227 (for the price, I was super happy with these)
Sennheiser (they don't seem to make this style any more)
A pair of unopened Bose headphones that I'm saving for a rainy day
For anyone who is looking, the Sennheisers offer premium sound, but, as mentioned, I was quite happy with the sound quality of my $40 Panasonic headphones. -
Shure E2C
Sennheiser HD555
Audio-Technica ATH-A900 -
Bose QuietComfort3. Love the sound and comfort, but didn't realize when I bought them (in a hurry one day, spur of the moment), that they required a battery. Keeping it charged, and remembering to turn the set off is a PITA.

Audio-Technica ATH-AD700 - very smooth, relaxed listening experience, they are simply very enjoyable to listen to. Bass is not their strong point but it is there. Wonderful, expansive soundstage and great detail. The soundstage makes them great for gaming.
Alessandro MS-1 (custom Grado SR-125, I modified them w/ tape and Grado bowl pads) - best for rock music and acoustic. Excellent clarity, very in-your-face details, but no soundstage. Bass is accurate and taut.
Ultimate Ears metro.fi 2 - mobile. Smooth range, responsive and accurate bass, and they are very good at blocking noise (16dB worth).
I run my headphones directly out of a Razer Barracuda AC-1 sound card, which has superb audio quality. It has the C-Media Oxygen HD CMI8788 processor. -
How are those? I'm no DJ, want to use them for movies, and was looking at getting those due to their great price.

Audio-Technica ATH-AD700 - Amazingly comfortable with detailed bass (though it's really lacking bass-wise with quick, detailed bass rather than what you'd usually expect) and a warm, crisp, detailed sound. Amazing soundstage, too. In games, I can hear where all my enemies are and there's amazing instrument placement when listening to songs. It's incredible listening to movies with these, surround sound placement is perfect. BTW, it was a coincidence that I got the same headphones as Chaz

Audio Technica A700 - Good bass, closed air design so good to keep the noise to yourself or block out the noise around you.
Audio Technica AD700 - Not as much bass as the A700 because its open air, but soundstage is even better, best soundstage I have ever heard honestly and also even more comfortable than the A700's.
Plantroincs DSP 500 - Little unit that has its own soundcard so no need for one in your computer/pc. Or lets you setup advanced chat like I used too do in WoW. Id have the game sound going thru my computer soundcard, but ventrilo/teamspeak going thru these headphones to seperate voice and make it easier for me to hear. GREAT base for there size and one of the highest quality micorphones ever.
Plantronics Pulsar - Nice quality set of bluetooth headphones that I use when the wires get in the way or I want to lay down and listen to music. -
This is me being harsh, but so far I've noticed that you speak to much considering how much you don't know. Then you had to go and say this.. and now I realize that you really just don't know anything. You walk up to ANYONE(I've tested this on multiple subjects; me, other audiophiles, my sisters, ipod lovers, random people at school) and they CAN tell the difference between them, they might not go out and spend the money on it, but there IS definitely a difference, and its very noticeable. Maybe you should research a little more and stop talking so much and you might actually learn more stuff, and your sennheisers aren't that great.
-
No offense to Nocturnal, but I tend to agree with this.
Now, since people are giving reviews of their equipments, here's mine.
Audio-Technica ATH-AD900 - It's soundstage/comfort is not as great as AD700 (but then, AD700 is nearly impossible to beat for these aspect), but IMO it gains in its more well-defined, responsive sound. Sure, its no AD2000 or K701 (and yes, I can hear differences, sadly
) - but its good, versatile headphones.
Audio-Technica ATH-CK7 - Clear, bright, amazing high, and good (for price) mid/low. Amazing on some music (love listening to Saint Just with this), can sound bit harsh though. Its noise isolation is not so good (UE tip helps, though), and it is very difficult to drive for a 70$ earphones.
AKG K26P - There aren't that many other inexpensive, portable, closed headphones that sound okay. Bass is too much for anything but outdoor use, but at least its not bad bass, and there's mid&highs. Disappointing build quality, but I guess that is given for inexpensive portable phones. -
Buy a pair of HD650 and show off to your peers...some will definitely ask why u bought those...then you will have to explain from scratch.
If anything is true of the Audiophile Mentality, not just on Head-fi, not just headphones, it is that it is often driven by the desire to purchase something and then the desire to justify that purchase.
Obviously there is a difference but not many understand the need for the difference.
If i was wrong then you wouldnt even see iPod buds on the streets. -
I have the Shure E5c......I regret buying them because just 2 months after the E500PTH came out.....for the same price!!
-
Dude, if I put 650's up against some PX100's then you can easily tell the difference. pretty much anyone can, they like I said, they probably wont go out and spend the money on it because they can't justify it(understand the need) but they can tell the difference. Your wrong when you said that they wouldn't be able to tell the difference, and a lot of people, if you did show them a fairly cheap alternative to their crummy ibuds then they probably would upgrade. But in the ibud thing you have to calculate the stupidity of people, which tends to be VERY high(hence the reason people spend more money on an ipod when they could get a different player for less that suits their needs more to point). And in response to your statement about sennheiser dominating all, Sennheiser is a good brand(I'm a fan) but there is better stuff out there.
-
Aah u misunderstood then.
By Difference i didnt mean the Sound quality difference....it was an overall Difference which they cant tell.
They cant Objectively list down the difference between
HD215 & HD280 or HD600 & HD650 or HD555 or HD595.
ya might say 'Wow, this is mindblowing'...but they ll say the same for others.
Oh btw... Average Listener wont even like HD650..coz Open headphones are not Bassy but more linear.
when i said $50 & $500...it was a metaphorical comparison and didnt literally mean same price.
For consumer level..Sennheiser is a better option...obviously there are other brands like Grado, AKG, Ultrasone Edition 9's!! etc. -
Couple the 650's with a proper amp(woo6) and they have plenty of bass, Grado, AKG, and Ultrasone all have consumer level headphones, I personally want some Utrasone hfi-780's more than any of sennheiser phones right now.

Hi.
Sennheiser HD 205
Sennheiser PX 100
Sennheiser PX 10

John. -
Usually even the Audiophiles (unlike you) move up the ladder ..they dont just go out and buy HD650 for once n all.
This is because your ears havent been used to such sound quality and u wont even like it.
So start off from HD515...and then u move up...this is the usual practice unless u r rich dad's kid.
Best of luck with what u buy!
try asking members of Head-fi and they ll tell u more.
U have a Great combo...PX100 + HD205 are a Travellers Audiophilia
So what do u use HD205 with? i have the same -
Damn, a lot of people have Audio Technica headphone.

Im using a Sennheiser CX400 - noise-isolating ear-canal-phone with powerful, bass-driven stereo sound

Etymotic ER6i with Shure Olives (Medium).
They're great for blocking out noise. -
my headphone setup: Sager9262=>Zero DAC ( Soon to be emu0404 usb 2.0 )=>Little Dot MKV=> AKG K701
This setup sounds great if you like to hear every detail in a recording without coloring the sound. The 701s have a huge sound stage and are great for helping you hear things in recordings you've never noticed before; there are lyrics in a lot of songs that I couldn't understand before hearing them through the AKGs. I'm switching the zero dac to the 0404 because I want to go usb and avoid interference from my internal soundcard. I will also be using it to record guitar to my hd. -
Are you really saying the sound quality is so good in the 650 that most people wont even like them? I cant even comprehend how that makes sense. And actaully most people set a price range and then buy what they can and depending on the sound they are looking for. Most people also shop between brands,(as seen in this thread) not just buying every Senn product available.
-
There is a bit of getting used to each headphones sound signature, but just because some one isn't used to it doesn't mean they wont like it(You may not like it though, and if you don't I doubt you'll get used to it then start liking it). The biggest thing about the 650's is that you NEED very good gear other than headphones to actually use them. To pull them up to their potential you need nice amps, and good source(CD or whatever you use). Another thing about it, people start with something smaller, which they think will be plenty enough for them but then they get it and realize how nice it is and want something better. If they actually knew at the start then they'd just jump into the better set, but most don't have enough experience with it to know which pair to jump into. I've read plenty on head-fi, Theres some on there that know alot, then theres people like you that just act like they know alot about it.
-
Seems to me that you'd end up spending more of daddy's money buying a bunch of mediocre headphones on your way to the top.
-
I'm no audiophile (though my dad is), but for me, the Shure E4 is sufficient. Though I may try out something else. It's just I have a bunch of other tech things to buy, as well as airsoft and just life.

low end headphones, enough for me tho... -
You must have heard of the term Burn-In? the high impedance H'phones need a good amount of Burn in before they start sounding good. -
Why you all the sudden talking about burn in? Some phones do need burn in, some need alot, some need little, just depends on the phone. You don't 'get used to it' because it burns in, burn is so the sound will CHANGE, not so you'll get used to it. Now explain to me why your bringing burn-in into this conversation?
-
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
burn-in to me is just the process of wearing in the drivers so that they archive there final quality of sound reproduction.
It may sound better or worse before/after the process IMO, its just a matter of the sound changing.
I guess some of the ultra high audiophiles assume they sound bad before you do this, or just do not like the idea of the sound changing over time so they burn it in.
Me as a car audio guy who used to do competitions, we always burn in sub woofers because if you dont the stress of high SPL can damage the woofers much easier. I doubt any headphones will have the same problem tho as its not moving nearly as much air or using that much force. -

Hi, I plan to buy a iPod Classic 80G as yours. My friend told me the price of iPods in UK are much lower.
I currently live in China, by the way. But I probably will move to UK after this summer. Could you tell how much did you spend for your iPod Classic? Thanks!
