I have a Dell Inspiron 1520 with a 9-cell battery and am interested in buying a Messenger or Shoulder bag for it. Because of the extended 9-cell battery, that probably means that it has to fit something slightly larger than a 15.4" laptop.

Here are the dimensions of the notebook:
    Width: 14.12" (35.8cm)
    Height: 1.47" (3.7cm) front - 1.65" (4.5cm) back
    Depth: 10.59" (26.9cm)

And the extended 9-cell battery adds slightly less than 3/4 of an inch to the depth of the notebook.

I need this Messenger/Shoulder bag to be (from order of importance):

    A) High-quality and protect the laptop

    B) Under $50

Please list any good laptop bags that would fit my needs.

I found many great messenger bags on Amazon.com for under $50. The ones I'm interested in are:

Targus TCG200 17 CityGear Miami Messenger Notebook Case-
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...8795950&sr=8-2

    Samsonite L35 Notebook Case-
    http://www.amazon.com/Samsonite-1981...8795950&sr=8-1

    Belkin 15-Inch Messenger Bag-
    http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-15-Inch...xp_grid_pt_2_0

The listed dimensions of Samsonite bag on Amazon.com state that it is a little too small for my Dell Inspiron 1520, but the dimensions on the Best Buy website say that it is a good fit for my notebook.

So, which one would you buy?

    Thanks,
    Leon

Your not going to find a bag for under $50, you might have to spend $75-$100 to get the protection you want.

you could also to go NCIX and see if any of their nGear products fit your necessary specifications. I know I'm sorely tempted to consider that one bag they have for $13 that wheels behind you!

edit - that $13 is in the current CDN sale, not sure about US sale...

I just put up a poll for this thread.

    And to zfactor,

I'm a little wary of buying a bag with no available consumer reviews online, but it does look great!
And I can't find a $20 off Office Depot coupon.

    Thanks,
    Leon

    Yock,

Thanks for responding, the case you pointed out seemed a bit too small for my notebook. Nevertheless, if you look at the Product Details, under Product Dimensions, it says that Product Dimensions: 164.2 x 137.8 x 70.5 inches ; 2.6 pounds. Lol...

    Thanks,
    Leon

    Leon,

Yeah, I never noticed that! But I had actually looked at this at a local store and then checked Amazon to see if I could get a better deal.

I just measured the pocket that the laptop fits in and I believe that it would accommodate up to between 11.75" to 12" width @ 2" thickness.

    It's your call.

Are you just looking to carry your laptop around?

I would suggest Timbuk2.com great bags, a little more expensive but you can get them configured however you like.

Chrome baby. They look the best, are waterproof, lifetime warranty, American made, come in different colors, are HUGE, and sexy.

    decent choice.

I ordered 2 bags off NCIX about an hour ago. Turns out just after I bought them the sale went away!

One was the nGear 15inch Shock Resistant bag ($5!!)
and the other was the nGear Notebook Bag Tote Style ($10!!)

so 15 bucks in total, with tax and shipping total was $31
Not too shabby. I'll post a review on these when I get them.

PS: Wait 'til they go on sale if you want one, they seem to often, and you get prices about $10 off for ether. (thats what I got)
Shipping to canada via purolater was $13

Need some help now! I just went to Circuit City after buying the bag online for in-store pickup. They didn't have it, so they let me pick any bag from the store for the same price. There were only two bags, and I didn't like the other one, so I picked the Wenger Sierra Notebook Case. Now I have two choices, either keep it, or return it and get the Targus Miami Notebook Bag. What should I do?
