Ok, I guess it was a little naive to think that I could just take my T60 and throw it into my backpack and expect it to be fine in there. I never thought about the possible damage it could incur while being jostled around with my variety of notebooks and textbooks. But now I'm scared about it and I need help.

First off, the T60 has a 14.1 inch screen and has about an extra half inch of depth due to its 9 cell battery. This brings its dimensions to approximately 12.2x10.5x1.2 according to its technical specifications. The current book bag I have is a 4+ year old Jansport. I don't really know the dimensions of it (other than that it can fit the laptop and books in there).

I've been looking online for something that acts sort of like a glove for the laptop. But all I seem to find are these blasted cases that look huge. And then they have all these fancy straps and handles and pockets and stuff. I don't want that!

They also have these messenger bag things. I don't want that either! It's way too trendy for me. I just want to shove it into my backpack. I think those work out better for you anyway. Don't you hate the way one shoulder straps chafe you? They chafe me really bad at least.

I don't want to buy a whole new bookbag either. Like I said, I already have one that works out fine.

Don't they make something that can just have a laptop slid into it and slid back out? Granted, I found things like that too, but they have all these alien terms and qualities about them and I don't know what's good. I don't even know I fair price. I see them ranging from $30-$100.

Now I know it might seem penny wise pound foolish to spend hundreds of dollars on a laptop and then balking on the sleeve for it. But honestly, I spent so much on the laptop, I don't want to break the bank on the sleeve either. I just want something that will prevent it from getting unnecessary cuts and bruises. Is that so hard? Thanks you for your help!

Well, what it sounds like you're looking for are called notebook sleeves.
I don't have any links off the top of my head.
Do a search on the forums, and on the web, you should find plenty. They're fairly popular.
