I just picked up a u330 to replace my aging and huge inspiron 9300 (17 dim inches of suck--at least the screen was).

My old backpack was a targus, and I was never happy with it, but it fit my laptop. Now that I have a much smaller laptop, it kind of swims in the protective sleeve, and doesn't seem all that protected.

I would like a bag that has a bit more protection and structure than my targus (doesn't just fall over when I set it down), and is able to hold about 3 1 inch binders and a few small textbooks.

I also carry around my slr on occasion, but I'm finding it hard to justify the extra cost/wasted space of a backpack that also holds an slr, as I have a perfectly functional shoulder type bag. If you think a bag would still be able to carry the needed textbooks thanks to either a removable slr compartment or dividers, then let me know.

I've compiled a list of bags that I've looked at, and seem interesting, but I'm not exactly sure if they have the needed space:

Finally, I've also been considering just picking up a zeroshock III as a stopgap while I decide what to do.

Any thoughts towards any of these bags, or other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Its kind of hard to pick out a good bag that can hold a lot but protect a small laptop.

    A backpack/rucksack my mother uses:
    Wenger!

Have a look at it - stands firm - should have enough space I think.

So far I'm happy with the quality of other <wenger products, also, as far as I'm aware my mother has no problems with the backpack.

(Personally I'm using a Wenger messenger bag)

    Hey!

My choices would be the Crumpler or the Python Pack, out of the ones you listed. They both seem to be roomy, durable..and able to handle what your needs are. I like the basic black color also! ;)

Have you checked out any Swiss Gear?

    Cin ;) :)

I really like that STM Evolution one. Looks like it would have plenty of room and weather resistant. Great lines too.

Well i picked up a Wenger, it seemed nice at the store. I loaded it up, and then proceeded to realize the flaw with their system that allowed the bag to stand upright. There was a piece of plastic sitting at the bottom of the bag that digs right into my back when loaded up, and kind of catches on my belt. I think I'm going to be taking it back sometime this week. I've ordered a zeroshock III in the meantime, as I'm headed to Florida for spring break in a week.

ATM, I have two more questions:
-Does anyone know how well the customary barge and/or the python pack handle as a textbook type backpack with the camera portion removed?
-Does anyone know of a good place to shop for bags in the Tampa/St. Petersburg area? I may just look for a backpack while I'm down there.

That's too bad it didn't work for you. Usually Wenger is a great brand!

Hope the Zeroshock III works out for you!

    Good luck!
